HOW INTERNATIONAL ROAMING ON A PLAN WORKS

When you leave Australia your mobile usage is charged at international roaming rates. These rates vary from destination to destination and frequently change based on international exchange rates and international provider charges. To use your phone while travelling, follow these steps.

Step 1

Turn your international roaming on using My Optus App or in My Account

Step 2

Choose a roaming option - pay as you go with standard roaming rates or purchase an Optus Travel Pack on selected plans for travel within Zone 1 destinations (subject to change).

Some plans have an amount of roaming included. Check if your plan has roaming included on My Optus App or My Account.

Step 3

When you are travelling, you can check your roaming usage in the My Optus App or My Account (charges apply when roaming). We will also send you 50/85/100% usage alerts to keep you updated.

Step 4

Happy travels!

Optus Travel Packs

Pre-purchase an Optus Travel Pack for $10/day on selected plans to get standard unlimited talk and SMS and an amount of data to use in Zone 1 destinations (destinations may change).

  • You can buy an Optus Travel Pack for 1 day or up to 31 consecutive days. You can review the Optus Travel Pack rates here.
  • The pack is valid for the purchase period and each day gets you 100MB of data. Data accumulates and if you have bought an Optus Travel Pack for several days then the data can be used over those days.
  • For example, buy an Optus Travel Pack for 7 days and get 700MB data to use over those 7 days. You could use it all in the first day, a little bit each day, or only on some days. The total amount of data you have is 700MB to use at any time over the 7 consecutive purchase dates you selected.
  • Once you’ve used your included data (even if this is before the end of your purchased days), standard roaming rates of $1/MB will apply. You can review those standard roaming rates here.
  • If you are travelling outside of Zone 1 destinations, standard roaming rates will apply. You can view those standard roaming rates here.

Purchase an Optus Travel Pack using the My Optus App, My Account (data charges may apply), or call 1300 300 937 (within Australia) or +61 2 8082 5678 (free call from your Optus mobile whilst overseas).
