Franchise, sequel or follow up: meet 2022’s most anticipated PlayStation 5, XBox Series X and PC gaming titles.

There’s no better feeling when you invest in a new game and immediately fall in love with the storyline, characters, and gameplay. It’s an exciting experience and time seems to fly on by.

On the contrary though, the feeling of finishing a game can sometimes be rough. We are always left wanting more and even go as far as playing the same game again - all in an attempt to experience similar levels of gaming joy.

So, when a sequel is released or even announced, the good nostalgic feelings return, and we ready ourselves for the next gaming chapter. Get your calendars out and controllers in order because there are some highly anticipated game sequels scheduled for 2022.

Gran Turismo 7

Arguably, Sony has the definitive car racing game series - Gran Turismo. It’s a classic car racing game following professional drivers competing in circuits to earn the acclaim and points. Gran Turismo 7 has introduced more futuristic racecourses and advanced its simulation modes for better track and feel.

In the latest instalment, GT7 also marks the franchise’s first game that can be played on multiple consoles – either the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. While it's great news for gamers who haven't yet made the upgrade, there are certainly some advantages playing on PS5. In GT7, players using the PS5 console will experience the game with 4K resolutions, 60 Fps and the ability to use the dual sense controller.

God of War: Ragnarök

Anticipation has been building for God of War: Ragnarök since its announcement in 2018, and when the trailer was released in early September 2021, fans almost broke the internet with excitement.

While the storyline for the latest God of War instalment has not yet been made public, God of War: Ragnarök is expected to follow Kratos and his son Atreus through a series of events that will eventually lead to the end of days and death of all Norse Gods. God of War: Ragnarök will be available on both PlayStation 4 as well as PlayStation 5.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

You can’t go wrong with a little Pokémon. Soon to be available on Nintendo Switch in January 2022, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to be the prequel to 2006’s Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

Set in the Hisui region (which fans will later know to be the iconic Sinnoh region), players will be building the very first Pokédex collecting new characters and tournament badges along the way.

For the first time players will also be able to choose how their Pokémon attack when sent into battle. Players will either choose Strong Style which increases the power of the attack but reduced speed and accuracy or Agile Style which increases speed and accuracy but decreases strength.

S.TA.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Originally announced in 2010, fans of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R have been waiting a long time for this sequel to be released. After facing some financial struggles, game developer GSC Gameworld originally cancelled its plans to continue the storyline. However after making a comeback in 2014 – S.TA.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl re-entered development and is set to be released mid-2022.

Despite technically being the fourth instalment in the game franchise, S.TA.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl is designed to be the sequel to the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl with a massive upgrade in graphics and playability.

S.TA.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl will be available for PC and Xbox gamers.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Sequel.

Whilst there are numerous Zelda games available, they are few that have received direct sequels. Due to the massive popularity of the original game” The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” fans got creative and made it known that they desperately needed more.  With enough fandom and global success- wishes are coming true with a sequel set to released at the end of 2022.

Nintendo have been rather quiet on their upcoming project “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Sequel” that even the official name is still yet to be confirmed. However, gamers can rest assured that the sequel is expected to build upon the open world mechanics with darker tones whilst still maintaining Link’s adventurous storyline.

Can’t Wait?

If you are unwilling to wait for these releases and trust us - we understand, why not go back and familiarise yourself with the original?

Sure, you may have completed the game to its fullest, but there will undoubtedly be some parts missed or areas you could do better at.

Practice makes perfect and so when the sequels are released, you’ll be ready to go. Have fun!
