When it comes to finding love, it’s nowhere near as coincidental as the movies make it out to be. Dating can be hard– especially now in the digital age where meeting someone new happens less in person than it does online.

If you were in the mood for love and looking for a somewhat shortcut to a wider net of a potential partners, then perhaps consider a dating app.

Gone are the days when setting up an online profile is taboo. In fact, it’s quite the opposite - with more and more people  setting up online dating profiles each year. Whether you were looking for a casual date or a serious relationship – there’s both an app and someone out there for you.

To help make your relationship quest a little bit easier – here's a list of dating apps that may help find you a partner, romantic or otherwise.

Tinder

Dating online used to have a bit of stigma attached. Now meeting someone through a dating app has now become the norm, arguably to the credit and popularity of Tinder. Tinder not only made the selection process easy to filter and engage with but also fun.

When you sign up – all you have to do is create your profile and you’re are ready to go. Profiles include preferences of gender, age, intent and interests. You’ll also be able to upload up to seven photos with a short introduction as well as a location radius. From there, it is just a matter of finding a match.

The app will bring up profiles that match your criteria and within your location range for your consideration. All you have to do now is swipe right on profiles you like and swipe left if you’re not interested.  If you receive a match (when another user has also swiped right on your profile) you’re both notified on the compatibility and from there you will be able to start a conversation to potentially take things further.

Bumble

Renowned for being the “women- first” dating app, Bumble aims to create a dating environment where women can feel safe and at ease when meeting new people. There is zero tolerance rule for harassment, sexual abuse, and bullying with a strict reporting system.

Bumble is the dating app that puts women at the forefront. On Bumble - women are the only profiles that are able to start conversations. Male candidates will be unable to interact with women unless their profiles have reached out first.

Hinge

Hinge is the dating app for those looking for a serious romantic commitment. Hinge was born with primary focus to help users find their life partner - so much so their tagline is “designed to be deleted”.

On Hinge, users can put together a profile that showcases their interests and detail what they are looking for in a partner.

After conducting surveys and internal analytics, the founders of the app discovered that 75% of subscribers were struggling to find a compatible match and that a majority of users were unable to determine whether or not there was a spark just based on just messaging. To combat this statistic and add further value to their matching process, Hinge introduced a feature where you can send voice recordings.

This allows users to not only hear the voice and personality tone of their potential new partner but was also designed to help conversations seem more intimate and natural.

Grindr

To maximise the choices available for the LGBTQ+ community – Grindr positions itself as; “the largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people.” [with] “millions of daily users who use our location-based technology in almost every country in every corner of the planet.”

Grindr was designed to be a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and is continuously evolving new features including strengthening their current safety measures to both enhance the user experience and protect privacy.

Wingman

If you’re the type of person who enjoys going on blind dates or think that your friends know you better than you know yourself - then Wingman may work more in your favour.

The Wall Street Journal put it this way; “Think of it as a digital matchmaker where other people get to talk you up.”

On Wingman your nearest and dearest set up your dating profile, go through all the match options and list them for your consideration.

This decision-making process allows your friends and family to have final approval before you meet someone in person or continue a conversation online. If you trust your friends and family, Wingman may be the final step to finding love.
