14 Jan 2008

Sydney-siders are invited to a free festival celebration featuring local indie rock sensations - The Cops

January 27 Harmony Park, Goulburn Street, Surry Hills From 6pm

Optus, MTV Networks Australia and Samsung Mobile are set to bring Sydney's Inner city to life on Sunday 27 January as they announce the winners of the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT at a free festival in Harmony Park, Goulburn Street, Surry Hills from 6:00pm.

The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT festival will be the final stage in a four month nationwide search for a drama suitable for viewing on mobile, internet and TV. The competition attracted over 40 entries from across the country with the finalists using a wide variety of uniquely conceptual themes that could all be made into a distinctive and refreshing TV, online and mobile program. Entrants were asked to submit a three minute pilot and script, which were then uploaded to the www.one80project.com.au website to be voted on by the public and the panel of judges.

Local Sydney band, The Cops will get the crowds pumped with their unique fusion of rock, funk and electronica as they enjoy complimentary drinks and top notch catering from Plated. As the sun goes down the festival will showcase the top ten dramas short listed in the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT. Guests can enjoy the surroundings of one of Sydney's newest parks, while relaxing on lounges and chairs that will be brought in to complete the perfect Sunday evening chill-out in the park. So bring your esky, picnic basket or favourite blow-up chair and enjoy and evening on us!

After the screening of the short-listed ten, the audience will then view a special sneak peak at last years judges choice winner, 'Takoyaki City'. The one hour drama created by Karl Mather will premiere on MTV Monday 28 January at 10:00pm.

From the ten finalists, two winners will be selected and announced at the festival. The first will be chosen by the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT panel of judges including acclaimed actors Noah Taylor, Alex Dimitriades, Emily Barclay and director Neil Armfield. The second will be selected by the public who have until 25 January 2008 to cast their vote at www.one80project.com.au or by sending an SMS to 199 ONE80 (199 66380).

Both Judges Choice and Viewers Choice winners will be announced, each receiving $10,000 and a Samsung prize pack including a Samsung F500 mobile phone. The Judges Choice will get the opportunity to work with MTV production experts and an executive producer at MTV Australia's production facilities to develop and shape their original pilot into a full-length multi-platform drama. The completed final drama will be shown on MTV and will be accessible via the Optus ZOO mobile portal.

Optus, MTV Networks, and Samsung Mobile encourage viewers to arrive early to secure a spot at the street festival SUNDAY 27 JANUARY - FROM 6:00PM AT HARMONY PARK, SURRY HILLS.
