Optus announced today several key appointments to its senior leadership team reflecting the company's commitment to winning in Mobile and developing internal talent.
Mr Andrew Buay has been appointed Managing Director, Products and Delivery and will take up the role on 1 June. Andrew has successfully led the Optus Wholesale and Satellite team for more than a year. Prior to this position he was Chief Operating Advisor at Globe Telecom in the Philippines.
Ms Vicki Brady has been appointed Managing Director, Optus Wholesale and Satellite and will commence in June. Vicki has held senior roles in Commercial, Marketing and Sales for Optus Mobile and was most recently Vice President of Consumer Marketing at SingTel.
On July 1, Mr Tay Soo Meng will take up the role of Managing Director Networks. Soo Meng has significant experience across the SingTel Group in building, managing and engineering mobile and fixed networks. Soo Meng held management positions within Optus Networks in 2002/03.
Mr Peter Bithos will move into the role of Chief Executive, Virgin Mobile Australia on July 1. Peter joined Virgin in 2006 as Director of Strategy and New Markets and was previously Director of Strategy at Optus.
"These senior leaders bring a depth of leadership experience to their new roles. Each has a detailed understanding of Optus, the SingTel Group and the broader telecommunications market. These appointments show our commitment to talent development," Mr Paul O'Sullivan, Chief Executive of Optus said.
"In 2008/09 our focus is on building greater momentum in our business and in particular leveraging the strength of our Mobile business. These additions to the Senior Leadership Team position us for further success.
"Today, we are also regretfully announcing the retirement from corporate life, of two Optus icons - Mr Matt Davey and Mr Steve Christian."
Matt Davey joined Optus in 1996 and is currently Chief Executive of Virgin Mobile Australia. Over his years with the organisation Matt has driven much of Optus Mobile's sales success. In retirement, Matt intends to pursue his interest in fishing and seeing more of Australia. He will retire on 1 July.
Steve Christian is currently Managing Director, Optus Networks and has been with Optus since 1992. He has held many senior Networks roles during his 16 years with the company. He has been instrumental in managing the investment in and growth of Optus' mobile and IP networks. Steve plans to relocate to his new home being completed in Mission Beach (QLD) and spend time with his family and sailing when his retirement begins on 1 July.
"I thank both Steve and Matt for the enormous contributions they have made to Optus' success and wish them well in their retirement," Mr O'Sullivan said.
