Optus improves network coverage in Town of 1770
23 Apr 2007

Optus announced today a further enhancement to its network coverage in Queensland (QLD) with the completion of a new mobile facility in the Town of 1770 on QLD's Discovery Coast.

Mark Williamson, Director, Sales Northern Region, Optus said, "The new facility will increase the depth of coverage of Optus GSM in-building coverage to the township of 1770.

"The Town of 1770 is a unique and historical destination and the new site will provide additional capacity for the township and ensure Optus customers experience seamless coverage.

"Optus is focused on expanding its network in QLD. The new site is designed to significantly increase coverage for the burgeoning coastal retreat, serving both residents and the large number of recreational visitors to the area.

"This expansion aligns with Optus' strategy to extend its network in Australia, providing the highest quality of GSM coverage," Mr Williamson said.

To date, Optus has invested more than $220 million to roll out over 760 GSM mobile base stations across QLD, providing network coverage to 96 per cent of the state's population.
