Optus WAP service provides cinema listings
15 Mar 2000

Cable & Wireless Optus today unveiled movie listings as the latest content addition to its WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) service - Optus Networker.

Finola Thompson, General Manager, Mobile Internet and Data, Cable & Wireless Optus said, "Using Optus Networker, you can select a cinema and the best session time to see the latest movie of your choice - it's Hollywood in your hand."

Optus Networker users can scroll through a menu of movie titles, cinemas and specific session times. They can also review the movie's censorship rating, key credits and read a short synopsis.

"With movie listings on your mobile phone, you no longer have to search for a newspaper when you want to find out what's on at your local cinema. If you are in a taxi or waiting for friends on a street corner you can quickly browse through the movie listings to find the session which suits you," she said.

The nationwide listing includes films showing in most of Australia's leading chain and independent cinemas such as Hoyts, Greater Union, Village, Dendy and Kino.

Optus Networker already gives Optus' GSM mobile customers with a WAP compatible phone access to online information such as email, share prices, breaking news, sports news, horoscopes and weather.

In addition to the new movie listings, a number of other popular Optus Networker features have been recently enhanced. This includes longer length breaking news stories and additional weather information. Share prices are now updated every 20 minutes.

"Over the next 12 months our customers will continue to reap the rewards of ready and easy access to information as we continue to add new content to Optus Networker," said Ms Thompson.
