OPTUS TO CAPTURE NEW RURAL AND REGIONAL CUSTOMERS
03 November 2005, 09:00 AM
Optus announced today its plans to seize more of Australia's rural and regional broadband customers with its Optus Broadband Satellite service.
Following the introduction of the Federal Government's Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme (HiBIS), Optus offers people in the bush a seamless and affordable broadband service - and is now set to capture even more.
Stuart Tucker, Marketing Director for Optus Small and Medium Business, said HiBIS had allowed Optus to go a step further in bridging the digital divide between regional and metropolitan areas.
"Optus Broadband Satellite gives customers the freedom of a high-speed internet connection via satellite - without the costly set up fees," Mr Tucker said.
"HiBIS funding is available to eligible individuals, small businesses and certain not-for-profit organisations within designated regional areas. The funding covers the cost of the satellite equipment and installation - leaving only a competitive monthly plan to choose from.
"With more than 20 years of experience in operating Australia's largest satellite fleet, Optus is the clear choice for satellite broadband. Many of our customers have discovered the advantages of fast internet despite being outside the copper network - and currently it's only satellite that can bridge that gap without having to roll out additional infrastructure.
"Our satellite broadband provides fast internet connections at prices comparable to those available in metropolitan areas. It is the ideal solution for people living outside the traditional copper telecommunications network.
"Under Federal Government guidelines designed to prevent Telstra extending its market dominance, Telstra is unable to obtain further Government HiBIS funding. But Optus is still powering ahead and able to deliver HiBIS compliant services.
"Our Optus Broadband packages are tailored to suit the needs of all customers, whether corporate or consumer, for both light and heavy internet usage - all at great value," Mr Tucker said.
