Opt Out of Direct Marketing from Optus

Did you know you can subscribe, opt in or opt out of specific marketing options via My Account?

If you're an Optus customer, you can manage your own preferences using the options below:

Email

If you’re an Optus customer, you can unsubscribe from email marketing by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email or by tapping on the ‘opt out’ link in the email received. You will also need to enter your mobile number and click ‘Continue’ to complete the opt out process. After 5 working days, you will no longer receive these particular kinds of emails to the email address.

SMS

If you’re an Optus customer, you can unsubscribe from SMS / MMS marketing by tapping on the ‘opt out’ link in the SMS received. You will need to enter your mobile number and click ‘Continue’ to complete the opt out process.

Other Forms of Marketing

You can opt out of our online ads that have been targeted to you. If it’s a targeted ad from Optus, we’ll show a small icon in the corner of the ad, just click on the icon and follow the prompt. Alternatively, you can visit My Account to opt in or out of our targeted online advertising at any time. You may still see our online advertisements after you have opted out, however the ads won’t have been targeted to you.

Managing Marketing Preferences

You can manage the types of marketing material you receive directly in My Account.

Do you own, use or manage any Optus Service?


Manage Marketing Preferences in My Account

Log in to your My Account and click the Profile menu to manage your General Marketing and Marketing Subscriptions. If you don't have a My Account, simply create one and get started!

Note. When registering for a new account, it may take up to 24 hours before you can manage your marketing preferences.

Important! The General Marketing and Marketing Subscriptions will be greyed out if you are younger than 14 years of age. You can still register for My Account and log in to your account to view contact details and Optus Perks.

General Marketing
  1. Click on General Marketing from your profile to:

    • Opt in / out of a contact method and provide the best (primary) contact number or email address

    • Opt in / out of specific marketing and promotional communications from Optus

    • Opt out of all marketing

  2. Click Save Preferences

Note: General Marketing preferences don't impact your subscriptions (e.g. If you subscribed to iPhone alerts but have opted out of all marketing, you will still receive iPhone subscription alerts).

Marketing Subscriptions 
  1. Click on My Subscriptions from your My Account profile to subscribe to specific offers that interest you

  2. Click Save Subscriptions

Note: General Marketing preferences don't impact your subscriptions (e.g. If you subscribed to iPhone alerts but have opted out of all marketing, you will still receive iPhone subscription alerts).

You will need to provide us with some details in My Account so your opt in / out preferences can be captured correctly.

  1. Click Everyone Else

  2. Enter your First Name, Last Name and email address in the appropriate fields

  3. Tick the Privacy Policy checkbox

  4. Click Save and Continue

Did you receive a message with your email address and existing marketing preferences?

  1. You will receive an email with your email address displayed in the message

  2. Click on the Manage Communications link in the email, to manage your Marketing Preferences and Subscriptions

  3. Click on General Marketing to action the below:

    • Opt in / out of a contact method and provide the best (primary) contact number or email address

    • Opt in / out of specific marketing and promotional communications from Optus

    • Opt out of all marketing

  4. Click Save Preferences

  1. Enter your Mobile Number, Home Address and Date of Birth in the appropriate fields

  2. Click Start Managing
    Note: You will receive a verification email to the email address provided, so you can come back to manage your profile in the future.

  3. Click on General Marketing to action the below:

    • Opt in / out of a contact method and provide the best (primary) contact number or email address

    • Opt in / out of specific marketing and promotional communications from Optus

    • Opt out of all marketing

  4. Click Save Preferences

My Optus app Push Notifications

From time to time, we'd like to get in touch with you to share updates or special offers using push notifications. If you decide you'd rather not hear from us, you can turn these notifications off at any time.

To switch off push notifications via the My Optus app:

  • From the main menu, select Settings
  • Move the Yes Messaging slider to the "off" position

Direct Marketing from other companies

To avoid receiving phone calls from other companies, we recommend adding your phone number(s) to the Australian Government’s Do Not Call Register.

If companies are contacting your through other channels we recommend that you,

  1. Contact the company directly and ask them to stop

  2. Ask which data company the organisation is licensing or renting your data from, so that you can also contact the data company directly

FAQs

Q. What’s the difference between unsubscribing and opting out?
A. Digital communications like SMS and email each have an unsubscribe option and an opt out option. When you unsubscribe, it means you're asking for us not to contact that specific email address or Mobile number. Opting out means that you're changing the preferences for your whole account (including any services / contact details you have registered with us).

Q. How long does it take to unsubscribe or opt out?
A. It will take 5 working days for us to update your preferences for SMS, MMS and email marketing. It will take 30 calendar days to update your preferences for any other contact methods.

Q. Why am I still receiving direct marketing materials from Optus even though I've opted out?
A. Double check the time it takes for your preferences to be updated (the topic just above this one) and keep in mind that sometimes we'll still need to get in touch with important messages about your service. It's also possible you might still receive email marketing if you have an email address that isn't listed or linked to your account. If that happens you can unsubscribe the email address by following the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. If for any other reason you're still receiving marketing from us after you've opted out or unsubscribed, please give us a call on 13 39 37.
