NBN with Optus: Professional vs Self Install: Eligibility & Info
When you connect with Optus on our NBN network, we'll send you a NBN Self Install Kit to help you get connected. This option offers you simplicity and easy set up without the need for you to take a day off in most cases. For details see the topics below.
NBN Self Install Kit and how do I get it?
An NBN self install kit comes with a modem and all the necessary cables you need to get connected to the NBN network. As soon as the NBN installation has gone through, you'll be able to connect any time.
We'll send you a self install kit if you're connecting a new Optus NBN service. You must be in an NBN serviceable area to do so. You can check serviceability here.
If you are migrating from ULL to NBN, you may be able to keep your existing modem. This will be confirmed when you place your order.
How do I know my NBN service is connected?
As soon as NBN have connected your premise to the network and have activated the connection, we'll send you an SMS to remind you to plug in your modem and start using your NBN service.
An Optus Technician will attend your premises to connect your Optus Modem to the NBN Connection Box. The technician will also connect any existing phone sockets and your PC to the Optus modem. (If a new modem is required it will be sent 2-3 days prior to the Optus installation).
A professional installation costs approx. $140.00.
If you require or use a back to base alarm or a medical alert service, note that Optus does not support Medical Alarms on NBN. Please contact us to discuss your requirements for your NBN service.
I've ordered an NBN self install kit, can I change this to a professional installation?
Yes, however you'll need to let us know at least 2 business days before your scheduled installation appointment. Call us on 1300 300 427. Note. There will also be a cost of $140.00 for a technician to complete a professional installation.

If you request a change less than 2 business days before the scheduled appointment, unfortunately we cannot guarantee cancellation of the Optus Technician.
