How do I change to these new plans?

  • New to Optus? You can view and purchase a plan online, in-store or by calling
  • Already have an existing account with Optus? If you're out of contract, you can simply upgrade your handset and move to our latest My Plan Plus that now comes with New Phone Trade Up. If you're still in contract, don't worry, you won't miss out. All you have to do is recontract onto a new 24 month plan (early upgrade fees may apply). For more information about recontracting, check out this page

What are these My Plan Plus & My Plan Business plans?

My Plan Plus & My Plan Business mobile plans are all about awesome voice and data inclusions allowing you to share your data across your connected devices with Data Pool.

Data Pool For Me Or My Family

Data Pool is perfect for families and for individuals with multiple mobile and mobile broadband devices who want to get the most out of their data inclusions.

Simply combine any combination of My Plan Plus (including SIM Only) mobile plans and My Mobile Broadband Plus plans on the one bill to pool and share the total monthly data across all connected devices.

For families, Data Pool means all your Gigabytes are shared, so if you need more data, you can use your family members unused Gigs.

For individuals with multiscreens, Data Pool means it’s much easier to use your preferred device when you have one Data Pool to draw on.

Data Pool For Business

Data Pool helps you better manage your business’ mobile data.

Combine any combination of My Plan Business (including SIM only) mobile plans and Mobile Broadband Business plans onto one bill, to pool and share the total monthly data across all connected devices.

It means that people who don’t need as much data make up for those who do. By sharing from a single Data Pool, you ensure everyone has just what they need to get the job done.

Data Add-on pack

The Data Add-On pack will be added to your monthly Data Pool, and once this is used, you'll automatically have extra data added at $10 per each extra 1GB.

Extra Data

If you, your family or your business happen to use more than the total monthly data in your Data Pool (including any Data Add-On pack for personal or business use that are added), we’ll automatically top it up for just $10 for every extra 1GB. We’ll also send you usage alerts to help you monitor your spend.

Usage Alerts

We'll send free usage alerts via SMS when you've used 50%, 85% or 100% of the total monthly data in your Data Pool and should you need it, 85% and 100% for any extra data ($10 per extra 1GB) given, so there are no surprises.

With My Plan Plus & My Plan Business, these alerts go to each of the mobile phones contributing data to the Data Pool. For more information on how shared data usage alerts work, click here.

Keep in mind that usage alerts are not sent in real-time and can be delayed by up to 48 hours.


All of your Mobile and Mobile Broadband services connected to your Data Pool will be on a single bill and within a single My Account online profile.  This makes it easy to keep track of your charges and usage. Keep in touch with those close to you with our latest My Plan Plus/ SIM-Only and My Plan Business/ SIM plans which include international minutes to standard numbers in selected countries. You can see a list of countries included here. If you’d like to know if your plan includes international minutes, log into My Account or check out your plan's Critical Information Summary.

If you go over your plan’s International Minute inclusions you'll simply be charged the International ‘yes’ Call Rates. More information about International Rates and countries can be found on the links below:

Standard International SMS & MMS

If you connect to one of our latest My Plan Plus/ SIM Only or My Plan Business/ SIM plans or change your existing plan to these plans, you’ll now also receive unlimited standard international text and MMS to selected countries. You can see a list of countries included here. Not sure if your plan has unlimited standard international SMS or MMS, simply log into My Account or check out your plans Critical Information Summary.

Standard national unlimited SMS & MMS

Standard national SMS and MMS are unlimited, regardless of the specific plan, time of day or the Australian mobile network to which they've been sent.
Premium messages (and international messages to countries not included in your plan), if used, are charged at specified rates on top of your monthly plan. Learn more about these rates in your plan's Critical Information Summary.

How is additional data usage billed and what's the maximum I can use?

The maximum cost for any extra 1GB of data is $10. Any additional data is not pro-rated, so you'll receive the full 1GB of extra data whether you use all of it or not within the billing month. You can track your usage online using My Account or on the go with the My Optus app. We’ll also send usage alerts to help you monitor your spend.

At the end of the billing month any extra data cost is added to your regular monthly account.  This extra data is charged to your bill, regardless of the device that triggered the extra data usage.

What's the maximum that I can use in a month?

These plans are truly flexible as we've built in heaps of extra data usage just in case you need it. Ultimately, the maximum additional data you can use is 150GB per My Plan Plus/ My Plan Business account, on top of your original plans inclusions.

If you use more than this, we may continue to charge you at the same rates or restrict your data use for the remainder of your billing month.

How is included data and voice usage measured?

Included data

Your upload and download usage is counted by the kilobyte (KB). So if you exceed your total monthly data either on a singular plan or in your Data Pool by 1KB, you'll automatically be given extra data for $10 per 1GB. This extra data is either added to your singular plan or to your Data Pool. If added to your Data Pool it is available to all connected devices.

Data can be used for mobile internet usage, tethering and VOIP from within Australia only.  Data used when you're overseas (roaming data) is NOT included and will be charged at international rates on top of your regular monthly charges.

Included voice

Standard and international calls included in My Plan Plus/ SIM-Only and My Plan Business/ SIM-Only are counted per minute. For plans that do not have unlimited minutes included, you'll automatically get extra minutes if you go over your total voice inclusion by 1 second.

To help you monitor your spend on calls that are not included in your plan we recommend that you keep track of your included usage using the My Optus app and take note of any usage alerts sent. 

Is unused voice or data usage rolled-over to the next month?

No. At the beginning of each billing month we automatically return you to your plan's / Data Pool’s base inclusions and monthly fee.

What Is New Phone Trade Up?

If you’ve signed up to the latest version of My Plan Plus/ Business, New Phone Trade Up gives you the option to trade your current phone for a brand new, shiny one after 12 months for $99 (as long as you sign up on a new 24 month plan).

What does trade up mean?

It means, after 12 months of your 24 month contract on the latest version of My Plan Plus / Business, if you'd like a new phone, you have the option to get one. Click here for more info on New Phone Trade Up.

How do I trade up and what will it cost me?

It all depends on how you want to trade up. Check out your options below:

You can have your cake and eat it too! You can choose to keep your current phone and get a new one. After 12 months, you’ll just have to pay out the remaining cost of your current phone (including any amount we were going to cover). You can then recontract onto a new 24 month contract with a new handset. Just recontract using My Account, or give our Recontract Team a call.  As a heads up, after recontracting, your phone and plan repayments may be different.

After 12 months, if you want to swap your phone for a brand new, shiny one, there is a one-off fee of $99. If this sounds like a plan, just pop into an Optus store so we can confirm your current device is in good working order. You can then recontract on the spot onto a new 24 month plan and leave with a new phone of your choice.

Is my phone in good working order?

We know that a little wear and tear is normal. So long as your handset functions normally and meets the following criteria, you’re good to go:

  • Turns on and off
  • The touchscreen is fully functional with no imperfections (e.g. Lines or marks)
  • Has no missing buttons or damage to other components (e.g. Charging port, SIM tray etc.)
  • Has no cracks or severe scratches (including the touchscreen)
  • You’ve disabled any locking features (e.g. Find my iPhone on iOS)

What should I do before I trade up?

We all know how upsetting it can be to lose those beloved photos and contacts so, before you trade up, remember back up your device. If you’re not sure how to do this, and need more information, just click on your device; Android, Apple, Windows. Once you’ve got a back up, make sure you remove your SIM card and memory card and delete any personal/ confidential information from your device.

For Apple devices, you’ll have to disable the Find My iPhone feature before you Trade Up.

  1. Turn on your device
  2. Choose ‘Settings’
  3. Select ‘iCloud’
  4. Tap and turn off ‘Find my iPhone’
  5. Enter your Apple ID and password and select ‘Turn off’

For any other devices, make sure any locking features have been disabled before visiting an Optus store to Trade Up. These settings can lock your phone remotely if you lose it, so if you're not sure how to do this, just check the user guide for your device.

What do I need to bring?

You only need to bring in your device. You can keep any accessories. Bonus!
