Underground Cable Installation: Fixed Phone & Broadband

An Optus standard installation is via our overhead cable network.

If you'd prefer for the Optus overhead (or 'drop') cable from the network to your home to be underground, there are some tasks that must be completed by a licensed contractor prior to an Optus technician attending. ~ !

If any of the below are not completed correctly, the installation cannot proceed and a charge may apply to cover the associated costs.

What's required before an Optus technician attends?

In brief, a qualified private contractor must lay in an enclosed trench, a white 32mm telecommunications conduit containing a draw wire. The trench will run from the pole on the street to the blind side or your house (where there are other services eg. electricity meter box).

All components of the preparation work must adhere to AS/ACIF 008 and 009.
