Switch Your Mobile Service Between Prepaid & Postpaid

A switch between a billed service and a Prepaid service takes about 48 hours. There may be a short interruption to your service of about 30 minutes when the service switches over. There are no fees to do this, unless you're still within contract if switching from a Postpaid service.

Yes! Provided it's active with us when you make the switch.


Switching to Postpaid

We'll arrange to switch your number and service over and any unused MyCredit balance to your new Postpaid account. Any other credit, minutes, SMS, data or bonuses are not transferred. Bear in mind, that you'll be subject to a credit check when switching to a billed service.

If you also want a new mobile

Go to this page in the Optus Shop

  1. Click the "Buy..." tab
  2. Select the model, type or colour where available
  3. Click "I'm an existing Optus customer"
  4. Click "Upgrade from Prepaid"
  5. Then click "Upgrade" next to the plan you'd like
  6. Then follow the prompts to complete the switch!

If you just want to use your existing mobile with your new plan

Go to this page in the Optus Shop

  1. Click on the "Buy SIM" tab
  2. Click "I'm an existing Optus customer"
  3. Click "Upgrade from Prepaid"
  4. Then click "Upgrade" next to the plan you'd like
  5. Then follow the prompts to complete the switch!

Switching to Prepaid

To switch from Postpaid to Prepaid, contact Mobile General Enquiries & Billing on 133 937. After the switch you'll receive one final bill for charges up until switch over occurs.
