MUSIC STREAMING FOR POSTPAID CUSTOMERS

  • What is data free music streaming?

    If you're an Optus customer on an eligible plan, you can enjoy music streaming on your mobile or tablet without using your plan's data on the following streaming service apps: Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and Spotify. If you're using some premium versions of these services, you may have to pay for a subscription to these services.

  • Are the subscriptions to the participating streaming services included?

    No, paid subscription fees for premium versions of the streaming services are not included.

  • I'm an existing Optus customer, how do I know if my plan is eligible for data free music streaming?

    To find out if your current plan is eligible for data free music streaming, head to My Account and click on the Entertainment section or contact us. You can also find out more about eligible plans here.

  • How will I know if data free music streaming has been activated?

    There will be a delay, usually only a few hours, before data free music streaming is ready to go. You'll receive an SMS or email to let you know when you can start streaming music from the participating streaming apps data free. Please wait for this confirmation from us before you start streaming as any streaming you do on those apps before then won't be data free.

  • What quality of streaming can I expect?

    Your streaming service has been designed to not exceed 512kbps. This speed is for a single stream on mobile and tablet devices, so you can enjoy your favourite music on the included music service apps when you're out and about.

  • Can I stream music without using my data when I'm overseas?

    No, data free music streaming is only for use in Australia. You'll be charged roaming rates for data used with any music app when overseas.

      No, data free music streaming will only work on the service which has data free music streaming activated onto its plan.

    • How do I get data free music streaming?

       

      • New Optus postpaid customer - If you're signing up to a new postpaid plan where music streaming is included, you'll automatically be signed up to data free music streaming. You can choose to switch this off if you'd prefer.

        Please note, there will be a delay, usually only a few hours, before data free music streaming is ready to go. You'll receive an SMS or email to let you know when you can start streaming music from the participating streaming apps data free. Please wait for this confirmation from us before you start streaming as any streaming you do on those apps before then won't be data free.
      • Existing Optus Customer - If you already have an eligible plan, you'll need to activate data free music streaming before you can start streaming music from the participating streaming apps data free. Login to My Account, and click on the Entertainment section to activate data free music streaming.

        If your plan isn't eligible, you'll need to move onto a plan which is. Contact us for more info or you can find out more about eligible plans here.

    • Why have I used data from my plan when all I've done is streamed music on the participating music streaming apps?

      There are some functions within the apps that are excluded from the offer and will use data from your plan. These include:

      • Video streaming
      • Album artwork displayed on screen
      • Advertisements that the service providers may insert into the app, these can be video ads or banner ads
      • Any analytics sent from the music provider to understand your music preferences and usage
      • Authentication, for example, when the app confirms your login
      Also, music will only be zero-rated when it is streamed through the participating apps for mobile phones and tablets. Use of third party apps which access the participating music apps, such as Sonos, are excluded.
    • I no longer want to have access to data free music streaming; can I remove this from my plan?

      Yes, you can remove data free music streaming from your service. You can do this within the Entertainment section when you login to My Account or by contacting us.

    • Can I tether or share my data free music streaming?

      Data free music streaming is not suitable for tethering or hot-spotting to multiple devices. If you do tether and use your phone to stream music, it may use your included data. Your streaming service has been designed to not exceed 512 kbps. This speed is for a single stream on mobile and tablet devices, so you can enjoy your favourite music on the included music service apps when you're out and about.

    • Do I have to stream through one of the streaming services apps or can I stream through a web browser like Google Chrome?

      You can only stream music without using your data on the Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and Spotify apps on your phone or tablet. If you stream music via the websites of the music providers on your phone, this will use your included data. So don't forget that data free music streaming is only available via the selected streaming service apps on a phone or tablet.

    • Will you be adding more music streaming services in the future?

      We'll continue to review the participating streaming services and may add more in the future. The participating streaming services are subject to change at any time.

  • What is data free music streaming?

    If you're an Optus Prepaid customer on an eligible plan, you can enjoy data free music streaming through the following mobile apps: Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and Spotify until 28/01/18. Some premium versions of these services may require paid subscription fees. The participating streaming services are subject to change at any time.

    Although streaming music from these apps won't use your included data, you need to have some data or MyCredit in your balance for the apps to work.

    To check if you're on an eligible plan, type your Prepaid mobile number into the eligibility checker on optus.com.au/prepaidmusic.

  • What apps can I get data free music streaming on?

    The included apps are Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and Spotify.

  • Is the offer available to all Optus Prepaid customers?

    As long as you're on an eligible Optus Prepaid plan, you can take up this offer.

  • How will I know if I get data free music streaming or not?

    1) Check your credit balance via the My Optus app or by texting MENU to 9999. If you see "MyMusic Selected Apps" in your balance, you can stream music data free

    2) Make sure you're on one of the eligible plans that offer data free music streaming

  • Can I stream music data free if I tether my Prepaid phone to my laptop, tablet or additional phone?

    Data free music streaming is not suitable for tethering or hot-spotting to multiple devices. If you do tether and use your phone to stream music, it will use your included data. Your streaming service has been designed to not exceed 512kbps. This speed is for single usage on your service, to enable you to stream audio music data free through the included mobile music service apps.

  • Does the offer include My Prepaid Mobile Broadband?

    No. Data free music streaming is currently not offered on Prepaid Mobile Broadband.

    • Can I stream music data free when I'm overseas?

    • Why do I need some data or MyCredit to get data free music streaming?

      Although music streaming is data free for eligible Optus Prepaid customers, you still need some data or MyCredit in your balance to use the music apps. Also some functions within the apps will incur data charges including song downloads, mobile and mobile broadband WiFi hotspots, video content, non-music audio content and other data sent by streaming services such as analytics, advertisements and album art.

    • Why have I used data from my balance when all I've done is streamed music on my favourite participating apps?

      There are some functions within the apps that are excluded from the offer and will use data from your plan. These include:

      • Video streaming
      • Album artwork displayed on screen
      • Song downloads
      • Advertisements that the service providers may insert into the app, these can be video ads or banner ads
      • Any analytics sent from the music provider to understand your music preferences and usage
      • Authentication, for example, when the app confirms your login
    • Will data free music streaming trigger a day on daily plans?

      Yes. Streaming music will trigger a day, however once you have triggered that day, music streaming will be data free until the end of that day.

    • What quality of streaming can I expect?

      Your streaming service has been designed to not exceed 512kbps. This speed is for single usage on your service, to enable you to stream audio music data free through the included mobile music service apps.

    • I bought a MyData Add On, why am I still using data when I stream music?

      Only full recharges give you data free music streaming. MyData Add Ons alone aren't enough to give you the offer.

      If you're within a recharge period and run out of data, purchasing a MyData Add On will give you data free music streaming as long as you're within your full recharge expiry. This is because you need at least some data to use the apps.

      Once your recharge has expired, any music streaming will use data from your MyData Add On.

      Here's an example.

      1. You buy a $30 recharge on Prepaid Ultimate Plus on 3 July 2017 giving you access to data free music streaming for 28 days.
      2. On 28 July 2017 you've used up all your data before your recharge expires.
      3. Because you need a little data to access the participating apps any time you use them, you buy a $10 MyData Add On giving you 1.5GB to use over 7 days.
      4. The MyData Add On will enable you to access data free music streaming for 3 more days - for the 3 days left that your $30 recharge is active.
      5. After those 3 days, you'll still have whatever data is left from the Add On until it expires, however streaming music will use your included data until you purchase your next full recharge.
    • When does the data free music streaming end?

      Data free music streaming will be available on eligible Prepaid plans until 28/01/18.
