Sam Smith’s Shirt Game is Strong

There’s no point in introducing Sam Smith. Unless you’ve been in a coma for the past 5 years or so, you’ve heard (and cried to) at least one of his heartbreaking ballads. The singer just released his second studio The Thrill of It All in late 2017, a follow-up to his wildly successful debut In the Lonely Hour, and by all accounts Sam is killing it.

You know what else is killing it? Sam Smith’s shirt game.

Careful perusal of his IG shows that sometime in 2016, Sam moved on from his usual dark shirt aesthetic and embraced colour and patterns in 2017.

So of course, being completely sane and normal people, we stalked his account and ranked our favourite Sam Smith Shirts™ (not actually trademarked). Here are the results.

Too Good At Au Revoir

This beautiful blue number looks like ink spots in water, a pretty, abstract floral. We want it in our closets immediately.

Another lovely blue floral on a soft yellow base. They remind us of pyjamas, but in the best way possible.

Can you tell how much we love florals?

Well technically, this is a jacket and not a shirt but we couldn’t let this amazing paisley pattern miss the list.

Sam’s cute celebration face is almost overshadowed by his cute shirt. The retro pattern plus the ultra-modern (no front buttons!) design make this a hipster’s dream.

One of my favourites, especially cos I’m about 90% sure my dad has this exact same shirt.

One of his sartorial highlights – a floral-patterned suit plus a red shirt peeking from underneath? *kisses fingers* Perfection!

This soft abstract check pattern seems comfy and ideal for his Sydney Opera House performance.

Swept away

Such an inspired abstract stripe pattern. Are they piano keys? Utilitarian housing schematics? No one knows.

A checked square pattern bleeding into abstract florals? Very daring.

This is the perfect summery shirt, combining a dreamy vintage feel with sunset colours. Well done, Sam.
