Love music? Love free stuff? You’ve come to the right place. Let’s take a peek at some of the best free music festivals around Australia in 2018. Listed in date order, because we’re clever that way.

Yabun Festival

Where: Camperdown, Sydney
When: 26th January 2018

The Gadigal word for ‘Music to a Beat’, Yabun Festival provides a positive space for people of all walks of life to share in the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

You’ll find market stalls, sports, workshops as well as live music from Troy Cassar Daley, Uncle Joe Geia, Kardajala Kirridarra and Electric Fields. So if you’re strapped for cash in Sydney this January, why not check it out.

Googfest 2018

Where: Rockley Oval, Googong NSW
When: 3rd February 2018

Live in Canberra? Looking for a night of fun and entertainment under the stars?- this free music event is fun for the whole family, so grab a blanket and a picnic basket and enjoy music, food and fireworks to cap out the evening.

St Kilda Festival

Where: St Kilda Foreshore, Melbourne
When: 22nd February 2018

With a pedigree stretching back to 1980, this is one of the longest running free festivals in Australia. Packing in markets, food and drink, and set against the beautiful St Kilda foreshore, this is one of Australia’s best free music events. 2018 line-up includes Baker Boy, Cool Out Sun and Slowcoaching, with more announcements to come.

Misumma Carnival 2018

Where: Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne
When: 14th February 2018

Misumma Carnival is a fun pregame event for the three week Midsumma Festival. Taking place in the chilled-out surrounds of Alexandra gardens, you can expect a sampling of live acts and performances to get you psyched for the festival. Best of all, it’s all free. So grab a few friends and head to the south bank of the Yarra River on Valentine’s Day for a day (and evening) of entertainment.

Eltham Jazz, Food & Wine Festival

Where: Eltham, Victoria
When: 24th-25th February 2018

Combining music with food and wine is always a winner, especially at a free event. Running over two days in February, Eltham Jazz festival has been voted one of the best Jazz fests in the world. Artists for 2018 include A Tribute to Blue Note, Anita Harris Quintet, Crescent City Connection and Blue Tango.

When: 2nd – 18th March 2018

Combining free and ticketed events, Enlighten is a chance to see everything from exhibitions and film to comedy and live music performances. It’s a chance to see Canberra in full force with something for the whole family.

Surfers Paradise LIVE

Where: Surfers Paradise, Queensland
When: 3rd -6th May 2018

Just because winter’s just around the corner doesn’t mean the party stops. Surfers Paradise LIVE is one of the biggest events on the Gold Coast, as stages roll out along the promenade to host dozens of live performances over three fun filled days. Headliners in 2018 include Reece Mastin and Daryl Braithwaite.

Blues on Broadbeach

Where: Broadbeach, Queensland
When: 17th - 20th May 2018

Billed as Australia’s largest free music festival, Blues on Broadbeach is four days of blues and soul across 20 different venues including outdoor stages set up just for the event, so you can expect a massive line up. Some bands booked for the event include Screaming Jets, Robert Cray Band, Backsliders and Karl S. Williams.
