Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Blonde

The stereotype of a Hollywood starlet brings up an image of a pretty blonde, but these celebrities found that their blonde roots only held them back. Going darker not only opened more doors for them career-wise, but also became their signature style. It’s hard to imagine them with lighter hair but hey, perhaps this proves that blondes don’t have more fun after all.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina’s known for her full lips and dark locks, but surprise! She’s actually a blonde. In a magazine interview, she revealed that her mother started dyeing her hair dark brown when she was four or five, and decided to keep it that way.

Dita von Teese

The queen of burlesque has a signature look: pale skin, red lips and dark hair to match her vintage outfits. It might come as a surprise to know that Dita’s actually a natural blonde, though she occasionally returns to a platinum version done up in a ‘40s hairdo.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams dyed her strawberry blonde hair red for a role in a TV show, and credits this for her career trajectory. The actress says that the hair change made people respond to her auditions differently, seeing her as quirky and fun, instead of flirtatious and dumb.

It seems like people have a hard time imagining Zooey Deschanel without her trademark bangs and dark hair, but her first big role in Elf actually showed her closer to her natural hair colour: blonde!

Sofia Vergara is a blonde Latina – she credits dyeing her hair darker with helping her get roles as producers had a hard time casting her with blonde hair.

Leighton Meester

A blonde Blair Waldorf? Hard to imagine, yes, but Gossip Girl co-stars Leighton Meester and Blake Lively actually played characters that sported each other’s natural hair. Leighton is a born blonde while Blake is a brunette.

Emma broke into Hollywood sporting her trademark red hair, but she’s also filmed several roles with lighter hair, which is closer to her natural shade. She does say that she feels more like a redhead inside, maybe because her mother also has red hair.

Olivia Wilde

Her breakout role as Alex in The OC had Olivia Wilde sporting something close to her natural blonde, but she achieved fame as a brunette in House and as a Revlon brand ambassador.
