Getting connected to NBN: your cheat sheet
Don’t you hate it when a new thing comes out and suddenly there’s a whole bunch of stuff you have to learn? We know you might feel a little bit like that when it comes to the National Broadband Network.
That’s where we come in. We love this kind of thing! We’re here to make it super easy for you to get your head around everything NBN so you can go back to doing what it is that you love.
Who even is nbn?
nbn™ (notice we are using lowercase letters here) is the Federal Government company which is rolling out the “NBN” (uppercase means the National Broadband Network) to homes, businesses and schools all around Australia. As an ISP (Internet Service Provider), Optus works with nbn to connect you to the new NBN infrastructure, so that as soon as it’s live in your area we can make your superfast internet dreams a reality. #thisiswhatdreamsaremadeof
But when will the NBN rollout reach my area?
As the NBN rollout is making its way all around Australia, it’s getting to everyone at different times. Find out when you can get connected to the future of Australian internet by searching the NBN map.
Also, here’s a few things you should know about for when the rollout reaches your place. Stay in the loop when it comes to latest NBN news and updates by registering here.
“Geeks R Us”
We’ll admit that at Optus, we get pretty excited about shiny new technology. But we also know everyone isn’t like us. If you just want to know what you need to know to get the NBN, then we can un-geek stuff for you.
Let’s start with something you’re going to need that’s called the ‘Network Termination Device’ or NBN™ Connection Box as we like to call it. This is an important piece of tech that nbn will install when they come to your place which will enable you to reach supersonic internet speeds.
Oh, and don’t worry about organising your nbn appointment – when you select your Optus NBN plan, we’ll sort out when’s best for you and book it for you!
Here’s the NBN low-down
Once you know the NBN is on its way to your area, give us a call. Our flexible NBN plans and additional NBN Speed Packs in combination with our helpful NBN-pro staff will have you living and breathing superfast, reliable NBN internet without the worries.
Then we will arrange for the nbn to come to your house and set up your nbnTM Connection Box and make sure all your tech is sorted. Not everyone will need a connection box, but if do need one we’ll have your back. If you’re a tenant there might be a couple of things for you to check with your landlord before you get the NBN connected, but it shouldn’t be a big deal. Optus and nbn are working hard to make sure landlords understand all this stuff too.
When that’s done you’ll set up your modem (or get us to come do it for you – that’ll cost a little bit more but sometimes we all just like to have someone else do this stuff for us. We get it.)
Then you can switch on your device – or devices! We all love our devices – and this is one of the beautiful things about the NBN, the number of devices you have doesn’t necessarily have to slow you down.
We’ve got businesses covered too, as NBN is ready to help you totally transform the way you do things. #werk
See, with Optus it’s easy to become your own NBN-tech guru!
