Your internet speed is covered
Maybe you never mastered the skill of tying twenty-seven different types of slipknot, but you still know the motto ‘be prepared’ is a pretty good one. We know it too, so we’re here to help you be as prepared as you can be when the National Broadband Network rolls into your town.
NBN: Please explain
Welcome to the new generation of acronyms – lol, brb, omg, tbh, tmi – it’s a shame YOLO because you won’t have time to learn them all.
But NBN is one you should know, and we’re here to get you in the know. Quite simply, it’s the way Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure is being upgraded. It’s kind of a big deal, and it’s a lot awesome.
And because there’s so much awesomeness, it’s a big job. NBN is being rolled out to homes, businesses and schools all across this wide, wonderful, sunburnt country of ours. So naturally, it’s going to take a little while. But luckily that means you might have some time to get prepared.
Getting ready for NBN
The first thing you’ll want to do is find out when NBN internet is actually going to be available in your area. You can do this by searching your address on the NBN map.
And if you want to be really prepared, have a look over our NBN Starter Checklist. Stay in the NBN-loop by signing up for our NBN news updates and we will let you know when the NBN rollout is on its way to you.
If you’re in regional or rural areas you’ll want to know if the NBN is coming to you too. Well, Optus has long been committed to making sure our friends outside the metro cities are looked after, and that’s not going to stop now.
Time to geek out
While you’re waiting for the NBN to get to your area, you can get yourself all schooled up in the finer details of NBN internet. There’s no need to become too techie about it, but it doesn’t take much to get your geek on and learn a little about NBN Fibre and NBN Fixed Wireless options and how these things might affect the NBN coverage in your area.
Does superfast mean super-awesome, and how can I get me some of that?
NBN is all about getting you online and connected to what you want, fast. So say goodbye to long waits, and say hello to superfast, reliable internet. #feelthespeed
Stream TV shows and movies, watch live sport online, challenge gamers across the world, binge on Netflix – what you do with lightning-fast NBN internet is completely up to you!
Want in on NBN?
So you’ve got the lingo down pat. You can use ‘multi-technology mix’ in a sentence. And you’re all over Internet speed. What now? Well, there are a few more NBN-things you should know.
Well the first thing you should know is that the NBN isn’t really a yes or no option. About 18 months after it’s installed the existing copper networks (the ones you’re using now) will be replaced by the NBN network.
Remember when we got all ‘boy scout’ at the beginning of our chat here? Well yeah, now’s the time to ‘be prepared.’ But don’t forget, Optus is here to help you every step of the way. It’s what we do best.
