Powerline adaptor

This device is a really neat way of getting internet connecting from one place to another in your home.

Simple plug one adaptor into the wall and connect to your modem, then plug the other into a second socket in your home, and your internet or Optus TV with Fetch signal will get carried through your electrical wiring.

It’s inexpensive, relatively easy to set up and more reliable than Wi-Fi. Each Powerline Adaptor has a set of two plugs.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION?

We can organise a technician if you need one. You may need a visit from a technician if you have a back-to-base security system (check with the manufacturer).

You will need a technician if you want your existing phone sockets wired into the NBN (most people don't).

What's involved?

With a professional installation, an Optus technician will:

  • Set up your Optus Wi-Fi modem.
  • Connect your computer and existing phone sockets.
  • Make sure that your NBN broadband and phone services are working.
  • Connect up to two Wi-Fi devices and show you how it's done.
  • For existing Optus customers, transfer services such as Optus TV with Fetch.
  • If you need any additional work done you can ask our friendly technician for a quote while he's there.

New Developments Charge

WHAT IS THE NEW DEVELOPMENTS CHARGE?

The New Developments Charge is a one-off fee mandated by the Australian Government which nbn ™ applies in order to get the NBN up-and-running at new premises in new development areas. It is only charged once - the first time the NBN is connected. The New Developments Charge only applies to NBN serviceable locations within new developments.

The New Developments Charge is $300, which includes GST. It will appear as an upfront cost on your Optus NBN bill.

NBN Service Transfer

MOVING YOUR SERVICE OVER TO OPTUS

When you transfer to Optus, you might be charged a cancellation fee or other charges from your current service provider.

Your service provider will continue providing your service until the transfer is complete, although you may experience a small outage during transfer. Once your transfer’s complete, you should contact your provider to make sure your account has been closed.

If you are transferring from a bundled telephone and broadband service, to a broadband only service, your telephone service will be cancelled and the number may be quarantined.

Any faults on the service with your current provider will be closed as part of the transfer process.

If you need any customer support or help with faults at any time before your phone service is transferred to Optus you’ll need to contact your current phone company.

You'll find the four yellow ports on the box’s underside. The box’s front has indicator lights, while the underside’s mid-section has four yellow ports. Your active nbn broadband service is currently running on one of these ports.

  • How do I know if I can get Optus broadband at my home?

    Simply select "Check Availability" on any of the plans to see what's available at your place.

  • What speed can I expect with the NBN?

    Most of our plans start at a line speed to the home of up to 25/5Mbps as per nbn™ Speed Tier 2. Our NBN Ultimate Bundle starts with a line speed to the home of up to 50/20 Mbps as per nbn Speed Tier 4; You can buy additional speed packs if you need it a bit faster.

  • Can I transfer my existing phone number to Optus?

    You can transfer your number in most cases, as long as you are staying in the same local area. Transferring your number can take up to 10 business days. Just make sure you don't cancel your service with your current provider until the transfer is complete.

  • Is Optus TV unmetered on my Optus broadband connection?

    If you connect your Optus TV with Fetch set-top box to an Optus Home Broadband service, data usage generated by purchase and/or download of content will be zero-rated. Other data usage such as downloads and uploads associated with software updates, applications, games or the downloading of content via free-to-air television catch-up services will not be zero-rated.

  • What’s the nbn ™ installation process?

    First, we’ll arrange an appointment for an nbn technician to come to your place to connect you to the NBN infrastructure, either via fibre-optic cable or fixed wireless. After the technician has activated your connection, follow the installation guide provided with your modem to get online.

  • What are double data months?

    If you’re on the 200GB plan and you happen to have a big month online from time to time, you'll be able to top up your data for the rest of the billing month at no extra cost, twice per year, every year. Additional top-ups will cost $20 each.
