International Roaming with Optus Travel™ lets you make and receive mobile phone calls, text and MMS, and connect to the internet while you're travelling overseas.
International roaming is automatically turned on for all Optus Prepaid mobiles and new Optus mobiles on a plan (new connections from 15th September 2013).
But, if roaming isn't currently turned on for your phone or device, it's a good idea to do so before you leave Australia.

On My Prepaid Daily and Daily Plus, Optus Travel™ roaming rates are charged directly out of your MyCredit balance. Simply recharge from $10 and get six months expiry.
On My Prepaid Ultra and My Prepaid Ultra Plus, Optus Travel™ roaming rates can be charged from the balance of a Travel Credit Add On, your Extras Credit or an Extras Credit Add On.
Travel Credit Add On
Recharge with $20 on My Prepaid Ultra and My Prepaid Ultra Plus to get a $20 Travel Credit Add On with 30 days expiry to use while roaming overseas.
The Travel Credit Add On is only for use on standard voice calls, SMS and data whilst roaming overseas. Travel Credit cannot be used for MMS.
Extras Credit can be used for international roaming as well as international calls and premium services within Australia.
A $30 recharge on My Prepaid Ultra and My Prepaid Ultra Plus, comes with $5 Extras Credit included. A $45 recharge includes $10 Extras Credit and a $60 recharge includes $15 Extras Credit.
Expiry is 30 days or on next plan recharge, whichever is earlier.
Extras Credit Add On
The Extras Credit Add On can be used for international roaming, as well as international calls and premium services within Australia.
Simply recharge with $10 to select the $10 Extras Credit Add On with 30 days expiry.
NITTY GRITTY: Optus Travel™ rates are charged out of your Extras Credit, Travel Credit Add On or Extras Credit Add On balances only. Any unused Add On value will roll over if you recharge with the same Add On before your credit expiry. 30 days expiry.
If you’re on one of our other prepaid plans, Optus Travel™ rates are charged out of your Credit/MyCredit balance only. Any bonus balances you have cannot be used on Optus Travel™ Rates.
Charges apply for both making and receiving calls. You only pay for SMS/MMS you send; receiving messages is free.

from your mobile to redeem a recharge voucher or you can pay by credit/debit card.
Pick up a recharge voucher before you leave home from any Optus store or at one of over 20,000 retailers around Australia. You can buy one or more in advance and redeem them over the phone or online whilst you are overseas.

If you’re on a My Prepaid Daily or older prepaid plan simply recharge to get more MyCredit.
If you’re on My Prepaid Ultra or My Prepaid Ultra Plus simply recharge with $20 and select a $20 Travel Credit Add On, or recharge with $10 and select a $10 Extras Credit Add On. Yes, we send text usage alerts for every $100 estimated spent on data while roaming. Just so you know, sometimes alerts can take a bit longer due to delays in estimating how much you've spent.
When you’re roaming overseas, we will send you alerts when you have $50, $30, $15, $5 and $2 Extras Credit or Travel Credit or MyCredit left.
