Network Coverage Maps

Optus is expanding its ’yes’G Network.

The expansion of the ’yes’G Network is well underway. The ’yes’G Network, using our UMTS 2100MHz/900MHz spectrum bands, will reach 96% of the Australian population by December 2008*. Today, this network reaches 94% of the Australian Population.

The Optus Wireless Broadband Network provides access to high speed~ data* as well as wide voice coverage. The advantage of using the coverage friendly 900MHz spectrum band is its’ ability to travel further from a single base station, which makes it well suited to deliver wireless broadband and mobile voice services to regional areas of Australia.

How to access the ‘yes’G Network coverage.

To access the wider coverage provided by the ’yes’G (2100MHz/900MHz) Network, Optus customers will need to use a 3G/HSPA 900MHz/2100MHz dual band device and can now select from a range of great dual band mobile phones and wireless broadband modems.

The Optus 3G – Network

The Optus 3G network , launched in November 2005, uses our 2100MHz frequency band. Enabled with High Speed Packet Access technology (HSPA), it provides high speed data services such as Wireless Broadband access, faster access to content and innovative applications such as video streaming and video downloading. The Optus 3G network currently reaches 80% of the Australian population.

The Optus 3G network is available in all Australian Capital cities and selected major regional centres. It is designed to provide excellent coverage and speed in busy, built-up areas. The Optus 3G network has a wide range of handsets and devices available to suit customers voice and data requirements and will be identified with the 3G logo (Link to 3G handsets/devices).

If using a 3G/2100MHz device, when making calls or sending/receiving data outside of our 3G Network areas, your mobile or device will roam seamlessly on to the Optus 2G network which provides great coverage to over 690,000 square kilometres of Australia’s landmass. Reaching over 96% of the Australian population, you can rest assured you will still have access to voice, SMS, MMS and dial-up speeds for data access.

The Optus 2G Network

The Optus 2G network will continue to provide great coverage to 96% of the Australian population. This coverage includes Voice, SMS, MMS and Data access using GPRS*.

The 2G network is certainly not restricted to the City/metropolitan areas. Optus has invested significantly in bringing more competition to regional Australia by expanding its 2G Network and in doing so, we have built our own base stations to ensure we maximise coverage in the bush.
