Optus is committed to providing equitable products and services to all its customers.

Under its Disability Action Plan, Optus aims to remove barriers to access for customers, potential customers and staff.

One of the major initiatives within the Action Plan is to develop a Disability Equipment Program for its telephony customers. As a result, a number of equipment solutions are available.

Teletypewriters

Optus offers the option of TTY (Teletypewriter) handsets. TTYs are specially designed telephone handsets which assist people who are deaf or who have speech / hearing impairments to communicate with others.

There are two TTY handsets on offer – the Uniphone and the Superprint.

TTY users please note that the emergency TTY number is 106.

Volume Control Handset

For those local telephony customers who directly access the Optus telephone network* Optus offers a volume control handset. The Large Button Handset (Doro 312C) not only has adjustable volume control, it also features big buttons and large characters, Caller ID display, flashing light and hearing aid compatibility. This handset is ideal for those that require an easy to read and easy to use corded phone to access our telephony services The volume control handset is available on request.

* Available to serviceable customers in Optus cabled areas in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. For technical and commercial reasons not all homes can be connected.
