Google and Optus announced today an enhanced strategic alliance that will provide Optus customers with easy access to information and video, whenever they need it.
Google will now power Optus' web search on its consumer ISP portal myZOO later this year, enabling Optus users to easily search the web directly from their login page.
This is in addition to Google already providing a search function to Optus customers via their mobile phone, representing an Australian first in dual platform delivery of Google™ searches.
Other parts of the alliance include:
- The display of relevant text based advertisements, using Google’s AdSense™ program, on the OptusZoo mobile portal and myZOO ISP portal.
- Optus' mobile customers will have quick and easy access through the OptusZoo mobile portal to YouTube™, Australia's most popular destination for online video, directly from their mobile phone.
"This agreement will enhance the user experience for Optus' mobile and internet customers," Karim Temsamani, General Manager - Australia & New Zealand, Google Inc, said. "This is a strategic announcement for Google, as it adds a leading Australian ISP to Google's growing Australian partner network and helps further extend the reach of Google services to the mobile phone. We're thrilled to be working closely with Optus to help enhance its mobile and online services."
Optus has over seven million mobile customers and 893,000 broadband customers in Australia. (as of 31 December 2007)
Warren Hardy, Managing Director, Optus Consumer said: "Optus customers are demanding access to best-in-breed services and well known brands to meet their hunger for robust search functions, user generated content, and video on both their PCs and mobile handsets. This alliance gives our customers a truly converged experience with the added benefit of familiarity across both fixed and mobile platforms.”
