FAQs

Q: What are the different repayment term options with OptusPay?
A: You can pay off your device by monthly instalments over 12, 24 or 36 month terms.

Q: Which devices can I purchase with OptusPay?
A: You can purchase any mobile phone, tablet and Smart Watch with OptusPay when you sign up and stay connected to an eligible SIM plan.

Q: How many devices can I get with OptusPay?
A: You can use OptusPay once per device and per eligible Optus plan. The number and total value of the devices for which you may be eligible is dependent on the result of a credit check.

Q. Can I upgrade my device earlier if I’m paying off my device with Optus Pay?
Yes, if you’re on an Optus month-to-month plan, you can upgrade your device after 6 months of your OptusPay agreement. To do this, you will need to pay off any remaining device balance in full (noting that any device credits or discounts you were receiving will be forfeited). The amount left to pay will depend on the number of months left on your device payment term.

Q: Can I decide to pay the remaining amount in full at any time?
A: Yes. If you decide to pay the remaining cost of your device in full before the end of your OptusPay agreement, you’ll need to contact us to cancel it and must pay out any remaining device payments in full. Any device credits or discounts you were receiving will be forfeited. This payout will be charged on your next payment date after the OptusPay agreement is cancelled.

Q: Can I get a device with OptusPay without an Optus mobile SIM plan?
A: No, you cannot purchase a device without an Optus SIM plan.

Q: What happens if I cancel or change my Optus SIM plan?
A: For enquiries including cancelling your Optus SIM plan, you can Message us 24/7. If you cancel your Optus SIM plan or your service is cancelled (for example because of non-payment), this  will result in your OptusPay agreement also being cancelled. Any device credits or discounts you were receiving will be forfeited and you will need to pay out the remaining device payments in full. If you want to change plans, your OptusPay agreement will continue as long as you switch to another eligible plan. You can make changes to your Optus SIM plan via My Optus app or My Account, or by contacting us.

Q: Can I change the length of my OptusPay term after I have purchased my device?
A: No, you won’t be able to change your OptusPay term after purchasing your device. If you are not satisfied anymore you will need to cancel your OptusPay and therefore pay out the remaining cost of the device.

Q: How do I make my monthly OptusPay instalment?
A: If you are on the new Optus Automatic Payment plans that have automatic payments set up and receive a tax invoice from Optus, your OptusPay instalment will be charged along with your plan automatically each month via your selected card payment. You can only choose to use credit, debit or charge card for your automatic payments and can update these details anytime in My Optus app or My Account. Once your payment is successful, you will be able to view your Tax Invoice in My Account or My Optus app.

If you have a plan where you pay your bill after receiving it from Optus (rather than automatic payments at the start of your payment cycle), you will have the same options for your OptusPay payment as you do for paying your Optus bill. You will be able to setup direct debit, pay with BPAY, your credit/debit card or POST BillPay to make your monthly OptusPay payment.

Q: What happens if I miss a monthly payment on OptusPay?
A: If you don’t pay by the due date or miss an automatic payment we will communicate with you so you’ll know what to expect. If your account is not kept up to date, your service(s) could be restricted, suspended or cancelled. Following cancellation of your service(s), your OptusPay repayments will be charged in full (noting any device credits or discounts you were receiving will be forfeited) in one lump sum, which will be communicated to you. If this is not paid, we may refer your account to a debt collection agency and if the amount remains outstanding, a default may be lodged on credit files held by an external credit bureau.

For plans with automatic monthly payments, see our Automatic Payment FAQs for more info or What happens when I miss my bill due date? if you receive a monthly bill.

Q: What information do I need to provide to buy a device through OptusPay?
A: You will need to provide 100 points of ID together with information to support your application for credit. This may include residential status, income source and employment details.
