The superfast Optus 4G Plus mobile network keeps getting bigger and better!
It covers many big cities, and it's increasing all the time to more metropolitan, regional and holiday areas using new 700 MHz spectrum, plus we’re adding extra capacity so more people can connect at the same time. We're planning to have 90 percent of the Aussie population covered by our 4G Plus network by April 2015.
That means, with a compatible phone, tablet or modem, you'll be able to enjoy faster downloads and Internet browsing in loads of new places! Look out for devices with the ‘4G in more places’ symbol to access our 4G Plus network wherever it expands.
Love data? Our superfast 4G Plus network is about doing all the things you love on your mobile, faster, and getting more out of your device. Think: faster downloads and web browsing or accessing more apps on the go.
- Do more! Spend less time waiting, browse faster and make the most of your smartphone or device
- We're turning it on in more towns so more people can enjoy the Optus 4G Plus network in metropolitan, regional and holiday areas
- Have a better data experience indoors while surfing the Net at home or in the office
EVEN MORE RELIABLE
- With more capacity, more people will be able to use the network at the same time without experiencing a slower connection
The "G" stands for "generation", so "4G" means "fourth generation" mobile network technology. While 3G was a leap from 2G that enabled Web browsing, as it made faster data transfers possible, 4G is a leap again providing high-speed mobile internet. You'll still use the 3G network for making calls but your device will choose the best network for your data needs, based on where you are.
To give you an awesome data experience on the Optus 4G Plus network, we use multiple frequencies (LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage and capacity, and are expanding the network nationally using 700MHz spectrum.
We're very busy making our 4G Plus network much, much bigger, and taking 4G to as many places as we can.
It’s available in big cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Canberra, plus we're expanding into more regional and holiday areas, too.
Find out if you can get access to our 4G Plus network using your preferred device by taking a look at our coverage maps. The maps help you see where we are planning to introduce 4G three or six months ahead.
Keep checking though! If you're not in a 4G Plus network area yet, chances are you will be soon.
If you are in an Optus 4G Plus network area, all you need is a phone, modem or tablet that is compatible with the coverage available to you. You will also need a compatible plan, as some older plans don't have 4G enabled. If you want to future-proof your device, choose one with the ’4G in more places’ symbol to access our 4G Plus network wherever it expands.
