KEEP IT OR TRADE IT – BUT STAY AGILE

KEEPING MY OLD PHONE

Want to trade-up but hang onto your old phone or tablet? Yes, keeping your phone as a back-up – or to give to a new employee – is an option.

Instead of paying the $99 fee, simply pay out the full remaining cost of your phone, including any amounts that Optus was going to cover. Then get a new phone on a new 24-month plan.

Have it both ways in business – keep your old phone and get a new one too.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

We're big on sustainability. One of Optus' highest causes of environmental impact is mobile phones, and one way we’re working to off-set this is by giving our phones longer lives.

How do we do this? Well, when you trade up – we pass your old phone to our second-hand device vendor. Once our vendor receives it, they prepare it for its new life, where it will either be re-used in developing nations or recycled through Mobile Muster.

But first, before handing over your phone, remember – you need to delete all your personal data, and make sure your phone’s unlocked. It is best to complete this step once we’ve confirmed your eligibility.

OUR NEW AGILE PLANS

We get it – your business needs to keep agile in a fast-moving world. That's why our latest My Plan Business plans include No Plan Cancellation Fee as well as New Phone Trade Up.

No Plan Cancellation Fee lets you exit early if you need to. Simply pay what’s owing on your phone – including any amounts that Optus was going to cover – and you’re out.

If you’re not on our latest My Plan Business – which launched on 11 March 2016 – you won't be eligible for New Phone Trade Up. However, you might be interested in our trade-in scheme or to be eligible to upgrade.

WHAT IS 'GOOD WORKING ORDER'?

If you want to upgrade, the phone needs to be in good working order. This means the phone is fully functional - that is, it makes and receives calls and texts, connects to the internet, and is not physically damaged, except for normal wear and tear as reasonably determined by us. For example, the phone:

  • can power on and off.
  • has a fully functional touchscreen and battery.
  • is not physically damaged (e.g. does not have liquid damage, cracked, discoloured or bleeding screen (LCD) or casing, does not have any missing buttons or damage to other components such as charging ports or SIM tray).
  • does not have any missing, disassembled, customised or non-genuine parts (this does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law).
  • is not cracked (including the touchscreen) and does not have any severe scratches (normal wear and tear such as light marks and scratches are okay).
  • has any locking features disabled (for example, find my iPhone on iOS devices).
  • is not IMEI blocked.
  • is the phone you purchased from us under the mobile equipment plan.

You'll also need to make sure that the phone is in return condition. Make sure you back up your data and then delete your personal/confidential information. You'll also need to perform a factory reset and remove the SIM and any memory cards, plus disable all locking features. Additionally, you'll need to provide all documentation reasonably requested by us to help make sure the phone you're returning is the same phone we sold to you.
