Messaging and answering services for business

Don't miss that important call.

It could be a team member, your most valued customer or next business venture.

Every call is important; make sure you and your team don't miss one with our handy answering and messaging services.

Missed Call Service

When you opt into our Missed Call Service we’ll send you a multimedia message (MMS) with an audio recording of your caller’s voice message whenever you miss a phone call, at no extra charge to you (when you're in Australia).

You'll be covered when you:

  • Are out of a coverage area
  • Have your phone switched off
  • Are busy on another call
  • Are just screening someone

Your caller can leave a short message and you’ll receive the recording in an MMS. Great stuff, huh?

Is my service compatible?

You can use the new Missed Call Service, if you are:

  • Using an MMS compatible device (handsets released from 2002+ have MMS capability) AND
  • Currently able to send/receive MMS messages (e.g. picture messages) on your phone. Let us help you if you're having trouble with sending/receiving MMS.

If you opt in to Missed Call Service and both criteria above are not satisfied, you will not be able to receive or retrieve messages left by callers. We will not be able to re-send messages.

Where are messages stored? Can I call voicemail to retrieve my messages?

Audio recordings sent to you via MMS through the Missed Call Service are saved on your phone – just like any MMS picture message. For a 1 minute message, the message size is about 92 kilobytes.

If you accidentally delete an audio recording, or you do not receive the MMS voice message (e.g. you've asked us to switch off MMS functionality on your service or you have an incompatible device), we will not able to re-send messages.

You also won't be able to retrieve messages by calling VoiceMail (321).

How to turn it on and off

Turn it on Turn it off and switch back to Voicemail
Call 159 and follow the prompts or SMS ON to 159
THEN
Dial ** 004 * 0411000160 # on your phone's main calling app and press the Call button.
Dial ** 004 * 0411000321 # on your phone's main calling app and press the Call button.

To turn both Missed Call Service and Voicemail off completely, dial ##002# and press the Call button.

Setting how long your mobile rings before diverting

Missed Call Service is automatically set up to allow your phone to ring for 20 seconds before it sets in. To change this, just dial * 004 * 0411000160 ** XX # and then press Call.

The XX is the length of time in seconds you want your mobile to ring. This must be in multiples of 5 seconds and the default is 20 seconds. For example, replace XX with 05 and your mobile will ring for 5 seconds before diverting.

Please note: if you want to switch off Missed Call Service or switch to another answering service and have changed how long your mobile rings before it diverts, dial ##002# and press ‘Call’ before turning Missed Call Service off or activating any other answering or messaging service.

How much does it cost?

Using your mobile in Australia: no extra charges apply for using Missed Call Service.

Using your mobile overseas: charges apply for using Missed Call Service. The rates differ depending on the country you're in. If your callers are diverted to Missed Call Service and prompted to leave a message, you will be charged the normal call rate to receive the call while overseas and again to divert that call to the Missed Call Service box in Australia. Check out the rates here.

If you choose to return calls as a result of being notified of the missed calls from the Missed Call Service, roaming call charges will apply.

In addition, for Postpaid customers travelling overseas, standard roaming data charges will apply for downloading the MMS (max message size is 400 kilobytes). If you have an Optus Travel Pack, MMS downloads will be deducted from your remaining roaming data allowance.

Postpaid Roaming RatesPrepaid Roaming Rates

To avoid these extra charges, you can turn Missed Call Service off completely (following the instructions above) and your phone's call waiting feature (visit our device help for info) before you go overseas.
