In today's business climate, many businesses are looking for ways to get the most bang for their marketing buck. The good news is that our digitally-interconnected world offers a plethora of options for companies to get the word out for low or even no cost. Here we look at six strategies, both online and off, that you can use to promote your business for free.
1. Get listed
Since most consumers look to the internet to search for businesses, it makes sense to sign up for as many free online directories as possible. Some of the more popular no-cost directories include Google Places for Business, Yahoo, Yelp, Bing and LinkedIn.
2. Leverage social media
Beyond Facebook and Twitter there are many out-of-the-box ways you can use social media to promote your business. For example, you could create a YouTube channel and upload instructional product videos or make a Pinterest board and use it to run promotions. Or write guest posts on popular blogs. Or record podcasts. The point is that when it comes to social media the ideas are virtually endless. Learn how to set up your social channels here.
3. Order free business cards
For a few years now, Vistaprint has been offering 250 free cards for any business that wants them - all you pay is a nominal fee for shipping. Of course, they want you to come back for more business, but the free cards are really free.
4. Send out a regular newsletter
Keep your business top-of-mind with a periodic newsletter. Include valuable information including free tips, coupons and the like. Design your newsletters with a consistent look and feel in keeping with your overall branding. Fortunately, there are a variety of online email management tools that make creating professional-looking newsletters a breeze.
5. Increase SEO
Drive more traffic to your site by optimising your SEO with regular, fresh content. The ongoing creation of new, keyword-driven content is one of the best ways to rank higher in the popular search engines and be found by potential customers. In addition to more traffic, valuable content can position you as a leader in your field, boosting sales as well.
6. Provide a great customer experience
Last but not least, providing great customer service needn't cost you a cent, but will go a long way in promoting your business. Happy customers are loyal customers and are statistically more likely to tell friends and family about their experiences, so always strive to go above and beyond. Your customers will reward you for it.
