Allan Burdekin

Director, Industry Development

With 20 years of experience in the ICT industry, Allan Burdekin is a former member of the National Consultative Committee for Security and Risk and the National Standing Committee on Cloud Based Computer Services. Prior to joining Optus, Allan was Head of Salmat Speech Australia and Head of Sales which specialised in Natural Language Speech Recognition (NLSR) and biometric solutions. During the five years he was at Salmat the company developed relations across all four tier one Banks providing a variety of services from consultancy in identity management to speech and biometric deployments.

Anthony Stewart

Internet of Things Practice Lead

Anthony Stewart is the IOT Practice Lead at Singtel Optus, where he helps customers understand and apply 'Internet of Things' technology and solutions to gain operational efficiencies and business insights. He also works on building the Singtel Group's global IOT capabilities.

Anthony is an expert in M2M and IOT technology and has spent many years at Optus guiding clients in its use across many industries including electronic security, property services, retail and transport.Anthony's other areas of expertise include, wireless security, business messaging, electronic security, fixed wireless convergence and mobility applications.

He possesses a rich understanding of the importance of IOT technology and the opportunities it holds for business. Since Anthony's move to M2M Market Development Manager in 2010 he has developed an M2M product set for Optus Business clients and established the M2M strategy for Optus Business. As M2M technology evolved to become the Internet of Things, the IOT Practice was established and is today led by Anthony with the primary aim of helping Optus customers unlock the value of the Internet of Things.

Cameron McNeill

Associate Director Smart City Vertical

As the head of Optus’ new smart cities business, Cameron is charged with bringing together all of the company’s capabilities to deliver innovative solutions for council, government and industry.

Before joining Optus, Cameron worked as a business development director at Cisco in Hong Kong for a decade, the last five years driving their Smart Cities business. In this role, he was responsible for developing and delivering numerous smart cities projects to governments and public sector agencies across Asia.

He gained in-depth knowledge of the technologies and services required for these solutions – experience that is serving him well as he heads the team that integrates Optus’ network, cloud, analytics, applications and other capabilities to help implement customers’ smart cities solutions.

Cameron is a 25-year veteran of the ICT industry, having worked for the likes of Nortel Networks and Bay Networks in a variety of roles in Asia, Europe and Australia.


Chris Kennett

Industry Manager, Property & Business Services

Chris Kennett is a senior IT professional with extensive experience in delivering IT technologies and services across a diverse range of industries and ASX-listed companies.

Chris has held CIO positions at Mirvac Group and The Greater Union Organisation, successfully leading the IT Departments through times of dynamically changing business requirements due to rapid growth, including internationally, diversification, mergers and acquisitions.

With over 25 years experience Chris has formulated complex IT strategies with simplicity and clarity to deliver pragmatic customer focused and cost effective solutions.

Craig James

Associate Director, Customer Experience and Insights

Craig manages Optus Business’ Customer Experience and Insights team, and is tasked with helping the company achieve its goal of becoming the most innovative, loved and recommended service brand in Australia.

Craig has more than 15 years’ experience in customer-focused roles. He has worked with private and public-sector clients to deliver growth and transformation strategies for customer-facing functions including marketing, sales, operations, and customer service and experience. He is recognised as a leading customer experience professional and regularly speaks at industry events.

Before joining Optus, Craig was a management consultant at Deloitte UK for seven years, working with clients in London, Geneva, Tokyo and New York. He also previously managed the customer experience function for the London Olympics and a global customer experience program for the auction house Christie’s.


Darren Wathen

Industry Manager, Financial Services and Insurance

Darren Wathen is a former consultant to CxO level across banking, government and health sectors on new technologies and security solutions as well as developing new outsource models and strategies to drive business performance.

Commencing his career as an Engineer, Darren has a wealth of experience in hardware and software development, enterprise architecture and IT Management commencing with engagements in diverse industries including medical, defence and telecommunications.

His breadth of knowledge in IT systems and management combined with a thorough understanding in business strategy and performance gives him and unique insight into how new technologies can be applied to tackle complex business priorities.

David Caspari

Vice President, Products, Solutions & ICT, Optus Business

As part of our transformation to a leading ICT organisation, Optus Business has created a new Products, Solutions and ICT division - and appointed David Caspari as its lead. Along with his team, David is responsible for developing our telecommunications and IT products and solutions.

David has held a number of senior roles in Australia and Asia for global enterprises in the IT product, services and software sectors. He has experience in a wide variety of markets and in businesses at various stages of development - from turnaround and transformation to high growth and expansion.

Before starting at Optus in May 2014, he spent seven years at HP, most recently as Managing Director of HP South Pacific and leading the Enterprise Group. He was previously Managing Director of HP Services (formerly EDS) for Australia and New Zealand.

Earlier in his career, David headed Nortel's wireline operations for Asia Pacific. He then spent a number of years at Cisco, firstly leading its Asia Pacific telecommunications business before being appointed President, India.

As a high-profile, high-performing executive, David provides the leadership that will ensure Optus Business continues to provide outstanding ICT products and services, and value to our customers.

David Lau

Industry Lead, Health - Industry Development

As Industry Lead, David Lau is responsible for the development and implementation of health sector strategies, business development and thought leadership for Optus.

Before starting at Optus in 2013, David was a senior health and health ICT strategy consultant, advising principally to the government sector. He was appointed by the Victorian Health Minister to undertake a review of the state's IT strategies and investments in the sector. David also developed strategies for, and conducted reviews of telehealth, advanced electronic medical record systems and medical export opportunities for other organisations.

He has nearly 20 years of experience in the industry, including a decade as a senior hospital clinician and health services executive in Australia and the UK. Among other positions, he has been Executive Director of Ophthalmology Services at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, and Director of Pharmacy at Eastern Health in Victoria. His achievements include designing and implementing a number of new systems and programs with strong emphasis on efficiency and inter-organisational collaboration. Most recently David has been appointed as a Board Director of the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

David has a deep knowledge of and passion for healthcare, having been a member of several industry boards, councils and professional organisations. He has co-authored a number of papers that have been published in prestigious medical journals.

Joseph Smith

Acting Director Cloud and Data Centre

Joseph is the Acting Director for Optus’ Cloud and DC Centre of Excellence. In this role, he helps organisations explore new business ideas and innovations through Optus’ Cloud and Data Centre products and services.

Joseph’s goal is to give customers the ability to create modern platforms and services, and to give them the building blocks to drive innovation and respond to customer and market demands.

Joseph enjoys the challenge of integrating and transforming customers’ traditional technologies into these modern services, ensuring existing investments are fully incorporated into private and hybrid managed cloud solutions.

Before joining Optus, Joseph worked as a Strategic Programs Manager at HP, working for the COO. He was responsible for the data centre portfolio that generated in the hundreds of millions in annual revenue. Joseph has 20 years’ experience in the ICT industry, spanning most functions -technical, projects, delivery, business operations, sales and business unit management.

He has a Diploma of Business from the Australian Institute of Management, a Graduate Diploma of Management from the Australian Institute of Business and is currently completing the final stage of an MBA at the Australian Institute of Business.


Karen Platt

Optus Business Director, Customer Experience & Innovation

Karen plays a key role in helping Optus Business place the customer at the heart of its culture and operations. She is leading the drive to embed customer experience and innovation into product development to deliver an integrated solution approach.

"My personal field of expertise is in the people side of change and understanding how to utilise customer and employee feedback to drive improvements," she says. "My team also focuses on business improvement in process and systems that enable customer experience excellence and consulting internally to support best practice leadership in customer experience, so our skills balance each other very well."

Karen has launched a range of initiatives to obtain feedback from customers and improve their experience with Optus Business. She has also been heavily involved in establishing the Optus Centre of Excellence for Change Management.

One of Karen's greatest personal achievements has been the Optus Business Customer Value Proposition Program. "This is about taking the time to understand what customers value and ensuring our proposition matches that and we deliver on our promises" she says.

Karen has been involved in developing the Customer Promise, a series of behavioural commitments based on customer feedback. The Customer Promise is now embedded in employees' key performance indicators and incentive schemes. Karen also coaches leaders within Optus Business and externally to develop the skills required to drive change with their teams. Karen's track record in leading product management, product development, sales, marketing and programs functions for the organisation has given her a deep understanding of the business and its people.

Katrina Reynen

Associate Director, Regional Industry Lead - Education

Katrina is a highly respected and dynamic executive with a record of high performance in general management, strategic planning and leadership development. She has experience at a senior level in all three sectors – government, not-for-profit and corporate.

She is currently the Industry Lead, Education at Optus Business, where she is responsible for developing the vision for education-focused solutions and initiatives, while leveraging the online teaching and learning capabilities of the SingTel Group for the Australian education market.

Katrina is also a Director on the Board of the Skyline Education Foundation Australia, which provides scholarships and a wealth of personal and career support to both gifted and disadvantaged gifted VCE students. As an active Fellow of the Williamson Community Leadership Program, she works with Leadership Victoria on a variety of not-for-profit activities.

Mike Kearney

Mike heads up the ICT Solutions team at Optus Business. He also has deep domain expertise in Contact Centre Solutions including associated consulting services and delivery activities. He is passionate about the pivotal role that contact centres play in delivering consistent customer experiences in multi-channel environments which enable organisations to differentiate from their competitors. Nick Sone

General Manager Ensyst (a wholly-owned Optus subsidiary)

Nick heads up Ensyst, a leading Australian services provider specialising in Microsoft cloud and productivity solutions that was acquired by Optus Business in 2014.

Ensyst has been helping clients transition to the cloud for seven years, and during this time Nick led the firm through the evolution of Microsoft cloud services. As a result, Ensyst is widely recognised as one of Microsoft’s most trusted partners and a cloud innovator.

Under Nick’s leadership, the firm was awarded the Microsoft Australia Public Cloud Partner of the Year in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Ensyst won both the Microsoft Australia Partner of the Year and the Microsoft Worldwide Cloud Excellence Partner of the Year.

Nick has more than 10 years’ experience in IT and telecommunications. He is recognised as an expert in Microsoft cloud services and is a frequent speaker at customer and industry events. Nick also represents Ensyst on the Microsoft Global Azure Partner Advisory Council.


Paul Kubat

Industry Manager, Mining and Resources

Paul is the Industry Manager for Mining and Resources at Optus. His role involves helping technical, operational and C-level clients in the mining and resources sector use technology to achieve their business outcomes in effective and innovative ways.

Paul has extensive experience in the information, communications and technology field. Over the last two years, he has focused solely on mining and resources for Optus, working with some of Australia’s largest global enterprises. He has had a long and diverse career including roles that extend from technical and operations to technology solution sales, marketing, relationship management and strategy.

Before Optus, Paul was with Telstra for more than 9 years. During this time at Telstra he was an Account Director looking after one of the world’s largest natural resource companies. He has also held roles at the ANZ Banking Group, BaaN Company, Dawson Consulting, EDS and Ford Motor Company. His work has taken him to the far reaches of Australia, into Asia and the US. He is also a member of the Brisbane, Melbourne and WA Mining clubs.



Phil Brady

Government Strategy Executive

Phil Brady is the State Manager within the Optus Business NSW Government Sales Team. Prior to joining Optus in 1995, Phil had worked for eighteen years with the NSW Department of School Education - nine years as a secondary teacher, and nine years with various strategic IT portfolios across the Department. Whilst working with the Department, Phil had responsibility for introducing a range of communications networks and policies specific to the support of educational administration, teaching and learning.

Since joining Optus, Phil has focused on working in the Government sector covering Local, State and Federal Government sectors in various government affairs, managed services and sales roles. He is currently the Optus Business State Manager for NSW Government Sales.
