South West TAFE

Optus Business and South West TAFE upskill students for changing industries using Smart Classrooms

OVERVIEW

South West TAFE is the largest and most reputable provider of skills training in south-west Victoria, responsible for almost 5,000 students offering 150 programs. Founded in the early 1800’s, South West TAFE has grown to offer industry-recognised and quality training programs across four campuses – Warrnambool, Hamilton, Colac and Portland – in a catchment area spanning 25,000 square kilometres.

With Australia’s growing demand to equip students with the digital skills needed for the workplace of the future – and subsequently the country’s economic prosperity – the technical and further education institution revolutionised its traditional classroom environments to deliver intelligent blended and tailored learning environments, on and off campus.

CHALLENGE

The issues presented to Optus Business included:

  1. The need to have simple and functional technology focused equally on teachers and students to support the institution’s change management program in building the instructional confidence of its staff

  2. Having collaborative tools, resources and spaces supporting student learning and encouraging users to work seamlessly on and off-campus

  3. A new learning-centric environment, where students and teachers have greater connectivity and flexibility over how and when they learn

SOLUTION

Optus Business’ custom ICT solution enabled South West TAFE to deliver programs and courses in multiple ways using new technologies.

The organisation reduced costs and time associated with travel, and was able to dedicate more resources relating to operational efficiencies and student outcomes and engagement.
