The Optus Mobile Network provides mobile voice and data services, helping businesses across Australia to improve productivity and workplace flexibility.
In almost 20 years the Optus Mobile Network has come a long way. When we launched in 1993, we operated just over 170 GSM base stations. Today that's grown to more than 5,200 3G base stations delivering services to over 97.7% of the Australian population and covering more than 970,000 square kilometres of landmass.
This is so that you, our customers, can continue doing everything you love on the go. In fact, every week on average you're making more than 200 million calls, sending over 200 million SMS and utilising enormous amounts of mobile data right across The Optus Network.
A solid part of our ongoing investment in the Optus Mobile Network is in new infrastructure to enhance our coverage and capacity. Since January 2011 these enhanced sites, known as "greenfield" sites, now number more than 400 and provide customers with access to the Optus Mobile Network in more places than ever before - essentially building new infrastructure to bring new coverage to your device so you can stay connected in more places.

Over the next three years we plan to add nearly 1,000 new Greenfield sites into the network plus introduce 3G 900Mhz to a further 500 existing sites across metropolitan areas. With every new site and upgrade we are making the Optus network even stronger - we're truly raising the bar!
Importantly, we are now embarking on the next exciting stage of our network evolution with the deployment of the Optus 4G Network. A network that will change the way you live your life on the go.
