Optus is proud to support Australia's up and coming tennis stars with sponsorship of the Junior Tour, incorporating the National Junior Championships.
The Optus Junior Tour comprises a program of more than 200 junior tournaments across Australia and enables Australian and International junior players to compete on an elite platform.
The tour includes four Optus Australian National Championships, held for the 12s and 14s age groups on the three Grand Slam surfaces of grass, clay and hardcourt. The 16s age group comprises of two National Championships held on clay and hardcourt and the prestigious Optus 18s Australian Championship is held at Melbourne Park in December each year.
Players compete for Australian ranking points, one of the criteria that players need to meet for selection into international touring teams and the national academy programs run out of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
A record number of juniors are now travelling under the Optus banner and are achieving excellent results. Last year, Ashleigh Barty from Queensland and Luke Saville from South Australia won the Wimbledon Junior Championships. Currently, Luke is the No.1 ranked junior boy in the world and Ashleigh the No.3 ranked girl. Overall, Australia has six boys and two girls ranked inside the world’s top 100 juniors.
