Tony Roche

Tony Roche is the Optus Director of Tennis. In his current role he is responsible for helping to nurture some of Australia's best young talents. Throughout the year and during Davis and Fed Cup home ties, Tony continues to work tirelessly with Australia's most promising juniors during the Junior Davis and Fed Cup training camps organised by Tennis Australia but made possible through Optus funding. These camps are seen as significant in the players’ development as they enable the juniors to see the hard work and dedication to training that is required playing tennis at the top level.

In addition to this, Tony works behind the scenes with some of Australia's most outstanding juniors preparing them for the tough European, Asian and American circuits. He will continue to work with the juniors in the latter part of this year as they prepare for the Australian Summer Circuit.

Tony Roche is an icon of Australian tennis, holding 16 Grand Slam titles, including one singles, and 13 doubles. He was a member of the Australian Davis Cup Team for nine years with the team bringing home the Cup for five of these years. Teaming up with John Newcombe, Tony was coach of the Australian Davis Cup Team from 1994-2000.

Roche has coached Grand Slam champions such as Ivan Lendl, Patrick Rafter and Roger Federer, before being announced as the new coach of Australian No.1 Lleyton Hewitt in July.
