Michael Smith is the Managing Director of Optus’ Consumer division and is responsible for leading the provision of value and quality products and services to Australian consumers including mobile voice and data services, long distance and local telephony, high-speed internet access and digital television. He was appointed to the role in April 2009.
Michael has played a vital role in Optus’ Consumer division holding the position of Consumer Group Marketing Director since April 2005 and increasing his responsibility to include the Corporate Marketing Director and the Optus brand in November 2007. Michael’s responsibilities have included the complete marketing function covering all Consumer segments and products.
In his eight years at Optus, Michael has undertaken a number of roles in the business, including senior marketing functions from retail to customer insights and product management. In other Optus roles, Michael has led the Business Mobility Group and was instrumental in the establishment of the Small Business Division where he led the marketing team.
Prior to joining Optus Michael spent 12 years with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, in a variety of senior roles in their retail and financial services divisions including Segment Management, Product Management, Marketing and Business Re-Engineering.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Business Degree (Marketing and Employee Relations) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
