Cable & Wireless Optus and POSMedia Online today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the potential of a multimedia satellite delivery network.
Bob Murray, General Manager, Satellite Services, Cable & Wireless Optus said the two companies will explore opportunities to deliver multimedia services to consumers through screens in shopping centres and public malls, entertainment venues, interactive tourism kiosks and automatic teller machines.
"This agreement, and the use of satellite technology, means that city and regional customers can be part of the same satellite network. Our established domestic satellite technology can provide the capability, flexibility and the cost efficiency for POSMedia Online to deliver their services across the nation.
"This is another example of Cable & Wireless Optus exploring new ways of servicing the satellite market and expanding our opportunities by working with innovative companies such as POSMedia," he said.
Peter Aynsley, Director and Chief Executive Officer of POSMedia, said that the MOU significantly expands the relationship between the two companies.
"This is the next logical step in our existing relationship. By leveraging our technical leadership and building strategic alliances such as this one, we continue to consolidate our position as the premier supplier of digital advertising media solutions in Australia.
"We already have the largest media network of this type in Australia. This MOU brings many opportunities for further expansion," he said.
POSMedia is an interactive media services company, best known for advertising through online Adzone systems located in major retail malls.
Cable & Wireless Optus already provides satellite delivery services to POSMedia's national media network. The first such installation was completed at Westfield Shoppingtown Chermside in Brisbane in September this year, and the companies are currently making arrangements to rollout to all of POSMedia's mall locations.
