The Optus 2G coverage area extends to 96% of the Australian population, and is suitable for customers using older 2G devices, to make and receive calls and SMS. Data for 2G services will be at GPRS speeds which are slower than 3G speeds.

The 2G network also supports 3G single band users (for 2G services) if they move out of 3G single band areas (see 3G single band above).
