The Optus 3G network , launched in November 2005, uses our 2100MHz frequency band. Enabled with High Speed Packet Access technology (HSPA), it provides high speed data services such as Wireless Broadband access, faster access to content and innovative applications such as video streaming and video downloading. The Optus 3G network currently reaches 80% of the Australian population.
The Optus 3G network is available in all Australian Capital cities and selected major regional centres. It is designed to provide excellent coverage and speed in busy, built-up areas. The Optus 3G network has a wide range of handsets and devices available to suit customers voice and data requirements and will be identified with the 3G logo (Hyperlink to 3G handsets/devices).
Outside of our 3G Network areas, your mobile or device will roam seamlessly on to the Optus 2G network which provides great coverage to over 690,000 square kilometres of Australia’s landmass. Reaching over 96% of the Australian population, you can rest assured you will still have access to voice, SMS, MMS and dial up-type speeds for data access.
