Optus today announced plans to create a loyalty alliance with Qantas which will see Optus consumer and small and medium business customers earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points for their Optus products and services.
The proposed alliance will enhance Optus' existing rewards programs and will launch in the second half of 2011. As a result, Optus will become the only telecommunications provider to reward consumer and small and medium business customers with the ability to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points for its products and services.
Paul O'Sullivan, Optus Chief Executive said, "With this exciting new alliance, Optus will be able to further reward and thank its consumer and small business customers for making Optus their number one choice for telco services. Our aim is to provide customers with greater choice and a better experience by enabling them to earn points towards a huge range of rewards such as travel, accommodation, shopping and entertainment."
Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said, "We are delighted with the prospect of welcoming Optus to our stable of partners and are excited about the opportunities this presents to our loyal customers who value choice, flexibility and of course, the ability to earn points for services we use every day, such as telecommunications," he added.
The alliance with Qantas Frequent Flyer will see Optus take its existing rewards portfolio - which includes Recharge and Always Win, Movie Rewards, bundling discounts and handset and tenure rewards - to the next level, by adding a leading points-based loyalty program that allows customers to choose how they want to be rewarded.
Paul O'Sullivan added, "The introduction of Qantas Frequent Flyer points by Optus will enable us to differentiate beyond traditional price and product based offers. Securing a compelling loyalty and rewards program is a strategic imperative for Optus. It will allow us to differentiate in an increasingly competitive telecoms market and offer customers additional benefits for choosing Optus as their telco provider.
"With over 7.8 million members, Qantas Frequent Flyer is the most recognised loyalty program in Australia. This announcement brings together two of Australia's leading brands in an alliance which will allow both Optus and Qantas to innovate in our respective markets," Mr O'Sullivan said.
As part of the planned alliance, Qantas will also be adding a number of Optus products and services as redemption options using Qantas Frequent Flyer points.
