Optus is calling on local community and non-profit organisations across Australia to apply for its 2011 grants program, which is now open.
The annual Optus Connecting Communities Program provides $150,000 worth of funding to support community projects that assist disengaged youth and build social inclusion. Each successful applicant will be awarded up to $5,000 to boost their initiative.
Jann Kohlman, Group Manager of Optus Sponsorship and Community Programs said, “Optus is committed to giving back to the community and our grants program is one way we can lend a hand to build better Australian communities.
“Grants will be awarded to organisations that can deliver positive social outcomes aligned with our community investment focus areas. These include promoting social inclusion and building a better future for disengaged youth through new opportunities, skills and confidence, access to education and removal of barriers to empowerment.
“We hope that the funding, together with the benefits of communications technology, can deliver positive social outcomes to the community and help improve lives,” Ms Kohlman said.
Last year Optus awarded 31 grants. Since launching the Community Grants program in 2008, Optus has awarded $400,000 worth of funding to 85 organisations.
Local community and non-profit organisations can apply online by visiting http://communitygrants.optus.com.au.
Applications close on 12 August 2011.
