Optus is one of the first in the world to launch the navigation savvy Garmin-Asus A10 smartphone

Optus announced today that it will be one of the first mobile operators in the world and the first in Australia to deliver the navigation savvy Garmin-Asus A10 smartphone to its customers from 7 June 2010.

The Garmin-Asus A10 is a dual band device (900Mhz/2100Mhz) that offers customers two devices in one, combining an advanced Android smartphone with a state-of-the-art Garmin navigation device, suitable for both in-car and pedestrian navigation. The smartphone offers Garmin's premium navigation services including access to a huge range of maps and map updates, Fuel Search offering the location of the nearest petrol stations (with pricing details) and access to over 30,000 apps now available via Android Marketplace.

The A10 is ready for in-car navigation and hands-free calling straight out of the box as it comes with a powered audio windscreen mount that magnifies the volume of the device's voice commands and any incoming calls helping to keep drivers safe. Detailed maps are also preloaded on the A10 so that customers can receive turn-by-turn, voice-prompted navigation without the delay of waiting for third party maps to download from a server.

For those times when walking is the best way to go, the A10 is ideal for city navigation because of its bright, 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, electronic compass and long-lasting 1500mAh battery. As with other Garmin-Asus Android-powered devices, the A10's GPS capabilities are optimised to ensure that customers have the best location and navigation experience a smartphone can offer.

Competitively priced, the Garmin-Asus A10 is available to consumers for $0 Upfront on the 'yes' Social $29 plan over 24 months# (including 200MB^ of data per month) and to small business customers for $0 Upfront on the 'yes' Business Complete $49 plan over 24 months# (including 500MB^ of data per month).
