Local 'yes' Optus shop owner to star in new television campaign

Local Maryborough Optus franchisee, Rob Hodges, has been selected to star in a new national advertising campaign that recognises his investment in the local community.

Rob is donating a brand new wheelchair accessible mini-van to the Powerhouse Community Centre that will be used to transport those in need throughout the Maryborough community and its surrounds.

Anthony Shiner, Optus Country General Manager, said selecting Rob's donation as the focus of the commercial was an easy choice, and his investment should be commended.

"We support our franchisees and encourage community investment and we are pleased that Rob's donation will make an enormous difference to the residents of Maryborough - providing a transport alternative for day trips and more," Mr Shiner said.

Diana Allan, Powerhouse Community Centre representative, said the charitable donation would help the centre provide transport for a variety of community needs.

"Having a transport vehicle at the disposal of the Powerhouse Community Centre will mean so much to some of our Maryborough residents, who find it difficult to attend meetings, events and social gatherings.

"Rob has invested in his community in the most meaningful way; this van has the potential to change the lives of the people close to the Powerhouse Community Centre," Ms Allen said.

Rob Hodges, owner of the 'yes' Optus shop in Maryborough, said the donation is something he is proud of.

"The Powerhouse Community Centre is such an important part of the local Maryborough community and I'm really pleased to be donating something that will make such a difference," said Mr Hodges.

The new advertising campaign, launching on Sunday January 24, will highlight the enhanced competition in telecommunications brought to rural and regional Australia by Optus - through quality network coverage and better value for residents of Maryborough and surrounds.
