On Monday, 2 March 2009 Optus sent text messages to customers recently active in Victoria to alert them of the extreme fire danger conditions over the next two days.

The SMS may also be received by Tasmanian customers and some customers where the base station coverage may run over state borders.

The message is being sent on request from the Victorian Government.

The message reads:

Vic Police: Extreme weather in Vic expected Mon night & Tues. High wind & fire risk. Listen to Local ABC Radio for emergency updates. Do not reply to this msg.
