After two very successful years, the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT will again open the doors to local aspiring TV makers, when it launches its third year of competition on September 15, 2008. Winner of the first OPTUS ONE80PROJECT, Ben Briand, is the first judge to join the 2008 panel. The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT is a joint initiative between Optus and MTV Networks Australia, in association with LG Mobile Phones.
The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT is a national competition, inviting all local aspiring TV makers with a good idea a shot at the small screen, proving that all you need is a good concept to get your project up and running. The winning submission will be produced and aired on MTV in Australia and will be available to Optus customers on the Optus ZOO Portals.
Michael Smith, Group Marketing Director, Optus Consumer said, "We have seen an explosion in popularity of user generated content in recent years, with more and more people creating and sharing content online and via their mobile handset. The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT mirrors this trend, delivering a compelling interactive experience to our customers, while allowing participating film makers to reach TV, mobile and online audiences. We are proud to be supporting this project for a third year and look forward to seeing the fantastic Australian talent this year's entries have to offer."
Ben Briand's gripping pilot for his one hour TV drama, instantly stood out to judges in the first year of the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT. When 'Hammer Bay' premiered at the launch of the second annual OPTUS ONE80PROJECT, guests were overwhelmed with the gripping honesty and innovative storyline behind the drama. Having a unique insiders knowledge of the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT, Briand will bring to the judging panel a new and refreshing perspective and will no doubt have some handy hints for entrants. Previous OPTUS ONE80PROJECT judges have included Noah Taylor; Abbie Cornish; Emily Barclay; Neil Armfield and Nash & Joel Edgerton.
OPTUS ONE80PROJECT offers a chance of a lifetime with the call to entry period commencing from September 15, 2008 until November 10, 2008. Ten entries will then be short-listed and viewed on the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT website (www.one80project.com.au) and the Optus ZOO mobile portal. All entries must be suitable for viewing on mobile phones, internet and TV.
Voters will easily be able to download the 10 short-listed pilots to their phone via WAP, or stream them from the competition website. Viewers will vote for their favourite pilot via a short code from their mobile phone or at the competition website. Votes can be cast over seven weeks, from November 17, 2008 until January 30, 2009. The pilots from the 10 finalists will be screened at the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT Festival on February 1, 2009, after which the two winning entries will be announced.
Both winners will receive an amazing prize package from LG Mobile Phones including the stylish new Black Label Series Mobile - Secret, a 52 inch LCD TV, Home Theatre System, Notebook and DVD Recorder. In addition, the Judges Choice will get the opportunity to work with MTV production experts and an Executive Producer at MTV Australia's production facilities to develop and shape their original pilot into a full-length multi-platform drama. The completed final episodes will be shown first on the Optus ZOO web and mobile portals and later shown on MTV Australia.
The 2008/2009 winning submission 'Dream Life', created by Sarah Dagger Nickson, has recently completed production, which saw Dagger Nickson and the team at Porchlight Films shoot at locations around Sydney. The one hour Drama stars Xavier Samuel (Newcastle, September & 2:37), Sigrid Thornton (Sea Change, The Man From Snowy River I & II, The Far Country) and is produced by Liz Watts (Home Song Stories, Little Fish). Dream life will premiere on MTV in mid November 2008.
