04 Oct 2006

Optus announced today a further enhancement to its network coverage in Victoria with the installation of four new mobile facilities at Dederang, Yackandandah, Tallangatta and Wodonga West.

The new facilities will enhance Optus GSM network coverage in Dederang, Yackandandah, Tallangatta and Wodonga West and the surrounding areas.

Warren Hardy, Managing Director Optus Consumer said, "These expansions demonstrate Optus' commitment to providing the highest quality of GSM coverage in regional Australia.

"The new site in Dederang will provide enhanced coverage along the Kiewa Valley Highway, allowing residents or visitors to the area to use their Optus mobile on the go.

"The expansion in Yackandandah will provide dedicated coverage to the township and enhance services along the surrounding roads.

"The new facility in Tallangatta will provide coverage to the township and enhance coverage along the Murray Valley Highway.

"The additional site in Wodonga West will greatly enhance coverage levels at the University campus, surrounding residential and industrial areas as well as increase coverage along the Hume Freeway.

"To date, Optus has invested more than $385 million to roll out more than 1,100 mobile base stations across Victoria, providing network coverage to 99 per cent of the state's population.

"Optus continues to invest in North East Victoria, providing local residents with a real alternative to other carriers," Mr Hardy said.

Cameron Mactier, Optus World Albury, said, "Optus has a strong network presence in regional Victoria, bringing choice and more affordable services."
