Optus improves mobile coverage in the Murray Valley
24 Mar 2004

Optus has significantly improved mobile coverage in the Murray Valley following the installation of new mobile towers in Koondrook and Durham Ox.

Rob Parcell, Director Victoria, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important roadways.

"The Murray Valley has benefited from Optus' $90 million dollar investment in Victoria over the past year.

"Recently we announced that our mobile coverage had been extended across more than 900 kilometres of highway in north western Victoria. These new sites at Koondrook and Durham Ox provide further coverage enhancements to the region.

"The objective of the Koondrook site is to provide maximum coverage to the township, complementing our existing sites at Cohuna, Kerang and Patho.

"The Durham Ox site extends our existing coverage at Kerang, along the Loddon Valley Highway, towards Bendigo.

"Improved coverage means that people living, working and travelling in the region now have a greater choice of GSM mobile network. I encourage locals to take advantage of our Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee, and put Optus to the test," Mr Parcell said.

The new sites complement recent mobile coverage enhancements in: Boundary Bend; Carwarp; Charlton; Culgoa; Cohuna; Hattah; Mittyack; Mystic Park; Nandaly; Ouyen; Patho; Piangil; Robinvale; Sea Lake; Wedderburn; and Wycheproof.

Optus has built more than 500 mobile sites in Victoria during the past four years, and its GSM mobile network provides coverage to 96% of the state's population.
