Optus has commissioned a new base station in Merriwa to provide mobile coverage in the town and maximise coverage along the Merriwa - Denman Road.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said the Merriwa site extends the breadth of Optus' GSM mobile coverage.
"Optus is committed to improving its mobile coverage in the Hunter Region and will continue to make improvements over the next 12 months.
"This is the first time the people of Merriwa have had a choice of GSM network provider," Mr Lew said.
Jayson Packett, owner and manager of local mobile phone store Network Comms, Singleton, said the Merriwa site would complement recent new coverage in Denman, Muswellbrook and Gulgong.
"Optus has worked hard to improve mobile coverage in the Hunter over the last 12 months and has plans to build new sites in Scone CBD and Gulgong Town North over the next few months.
"As well as building new sites, existing sites will be upgraded to increase capacity and raise the quality of coverage," Mr Packett said.
"We're confident people will be impressed with our new coverage in Merriwa and we encourage locals to put Optus to the test and take advantage of our 14 day Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee," Mr Lew said.
