Optus improves mobile coverage in Hervey Bay
04 Mar 2004

Optus has significantly improved its mobile coverage in Hervey Bay following the installation of a new mobile tower in the town.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important roadways.

"Hervey Bay has benefited from the commitment we made last year to build an additional 80 base stations in Queensland.

"The objective of the new site in Hervey Bay is to provide maximum coverage to the western suburbs, such as Toogoom, and provide additional capacity to supplement existing sites in the area.

"We are confident people living, working and travelling in the region will now enjoy good signal levels," Mr Lew said.

Local Optus dealer, Mark Ward from Network Communications, said the Hervey Bay site means customers now have a greater choice of GSM network.

"Residents, business people and travellers in Hervey Bay can now enjoy the benefits of Optus' expanded GSM mobile network coverage.

"Optus continues to enhance its coverage in Queensland, and has plans to build new sites in Colton, Fraser Island, Pig Creek, Susan River, and Woodgate in coming months," Mr Ward said.
