Optus has significantly improved its mobile coverage along the mid north coast of New South Wales (NSW) following the installation of new mobile base stations in Bungwahl and Elizabeth Beach.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said the company was focused on enhancing and extending its global system for mobile (GSM) coverage in popular holiday destinations and along the Pacific Highway.
"Optus is committed to improving its mobile coverage along the mid north coast of NSW, and bringing competition and choice to mobile users.
"The objective of the site at Bungwahl was to provide coverage to the Lakes Way, complementing the existing coverage provided by our Mount Chapman site.
"Our Elizabeth Beach site also provides coverage to the Lakes Way, as well as Elizabeth Beach and parts of Pacific Palms.
"Many customers are already enjoying the great coverage levels, with both sites recording steady increases in traffic since coming into service," Mr Lew said.
Local Optus dealer, Gary Evenden from Network Communications Tuncurry, said Optus' plans to further improve its mobile coverage along the north coast of NSW extended choice and competition in mobile services.
"Optus plans to build new sites in Bulahdelah and Rainbow Flat in coming months. And over the next two years, new sites will also be built in Burdekins Gap, Hallidays Point, Karuah, Old Bar, Tuncurry, Vincent's Lookout, and Wingham.
"Existing sites in Coolongolook, Mt Chapman, Mt Talawahl, Tall Pines, and Wallaroo Hill will also be upgraded.
"Residents, business people and travellers along the coast can now enjoy the benefits of increased competition in mobile services, as a result of improved coverage," Mr Evenden said.
