Optus improves mobile coverage along the Flinders Highway
31 Mar 2004

Optus has significantly improved its mobile coverage along the Flinders Highway, following the installation of a new mobile facility in Cameron Hill.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important roadways.

"North Queensland has benefited from the commitment we made last year to build an additional 80 base stations in the state.

"The objective of the new site in Cameron Hill is to improve coverage along the Flinders Highway between Woodstock and Mingela.

"We are confident people living, working and travelling in the region will now enjoy good signal levels, which is why we are offering a Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee," Mr Lew said.

Peter Patchell, Manager of Optus World Townsville, said the new site would provide customers with a greater choice of GSM mobile network.

"Optus also plans to build another site in Mingela, so customers with car kits will soon enjoy maximum coverage along 130 kilometres of the Flinders Highway, between Townsville and Charters Towers," Mr Patchell said.

Optus has built more than 200 mobile sites in Queensland during the past four years.
